Pak seeks info about Rahat's detention

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday directed Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik to inquire about the detention of well-known singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The minister is examining the matter, said an official statement issued hours after Khan was detained at the airport in Delhi on charges of carrying a large amount of undeclared foreign currency.

Malik telephoned the Pakistani High Commissioner and asked him to monitor the matter, the statement said.

Khan, 37, is the nephew of legendary Pakistani qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and has recorded many hit songs for Bollywood movies. He regularly performs in India and was on his way back to Pakistan after a series of concerts when he was detained.
