Bend it Like Beckham star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is the latest in a long list of Hollywood stars who have attempted suicide
Fantasia Barrino: In August 2010, season three American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was rushed to hospital after she overdosed on a mix of aspirin and a sleep aid. While the singer and Broadway star's failed relationship with the married Antwaun Cook was cited as the reason for her suicide attempt, Fantasia later went on the record to blame her home foreclosure, a throat tumour and business troubles.
Owen Wilson: In August 2007, Shanghai Noon star Owen Wilson was found with his wrists slit in his Santa Monica home by his brother, That 70s Show actor Luke, and rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles. Speculation was rife about the reasons behind Owen's suicide attempt -- his reported drug use, his alleged depression over his break-up with his You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson, and a fight with a friend. The incident led to Wilson bowing out of Tropic Thunder and being replaced by Matthew McConaughey.
Halle Berry: In 2007, Halle Berry confessed that she attempted suicide after her first marriage (to David Justice) failed. In an interview, the Oscar-winning actress said she tried to end her life by
carbon monoxide poisoning, but decided not to when she thought of her mother finding her body in the car.
Drew Barrymore: Child actor Drew Barrymore had a notoriously troubled childhood. A regular at the famous Studio 54 when she was a little girl, Drew was smoking cigarettes when she was nine years old, drinking alcohol when she was 11, smoking marijuana at 12, and snorting cocain at 13. After she attempted suicide when she was 14, she was checked into rehab and received treatment.
