First husband objects to Meera`s marriage plans

As film star Meera announced plans to tie the knot with a pilot of Pakistani origin settled in the US, her "first husband" Atiqur Rehman has said she will have to obtain a divorce from him before going in for a second marriage.

"Meera cannot enter into a second marriage as she is still my lawful wife. Under Islamic and Pakistani laws, she cannot have a second husband in the presence of the first. If she goes for this sinful act, she will be tried under the law," Rehman said while talking to reporters here today.

The actress yesterday announced her plans to marry Navid Shahzad, a pilot working for a private US company.

Meera said, "Navid's family is coming to my home to finalise the wedding. I am very happy to have my prince charming."

However, Rehman said a case related to his "marriage" with Meera was pending in the Lahore High Court.

"Meera should show courage and tell people about her first marriage," he said.

Reports in the Pakistani media claimed Shahzad had divorced his wife Sheeba after having an affair with Meera.

He has a daughter from his first wife. A few days ago, Meera disclosed to the media that she had an affair with maverick cricketer Shoaib Akhtar.

"I had an affair with Shoaib Akhtar some two years ago but he was not serious about marrying me," she said. Akhtar, however, denied that he had had any relationship with Meera.

Meera adopts baby deer’s

LAHORE: Lollywood actor Meera has adopted two baby deers, in order to raise awareness of the rights of animals.

Meera signed the required documentation on Friday and pledged to make an annual payment of 108,000 rupees to Lahore Zoo. The zoo administration has also announced that Meera has been named their ambassador.
“I will get married whenever God wills for that to happen,” Meera told reporters. “I have no intention to marry secretly.”

In May 2011, Meera’s known competitor actor Reema Khan was embroiled in a controversy as the Lahore Zoo claimed that she had adopted two deers but refused to pay for their upkeep.
Reema was also named as the zoo’s ambassador.

Meera " I am not going to keep quiet any longer"

This is unarguably a new twist in the tale. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has been godfather sorts to many Pakistani artists, has been accused of being possessive and abusive, Zee News reported. And the one who has slapped such charges against him is none other than Meera, who made her debut in ‘Nazar’ opposite Ashmit Patel.

Narrating what made her quit Bollywood temporarily, the actress while speaking to a daily said, “Logon ne bahut kuch likha is bare mein, aur kaha bhi, but main ab chup nahin rahoongi. Aaj main sach bolna chahti hun (Many things have been said and written about me but I am not going to keep quiet any longer. I want to tell the truth today.) It was not my decision to stop doing films, but I was asked to leave India by Mahesh ji. He did not like my being famous and interacting with other directors.”

Meera has also gone to the extent of telling that the veteran filmmaker was jealous of her growing stardom and that he feared she might outshine him.

“Mujhe laga woh jealous thay mujhse jab main famous ho rahi thi. Woh nahin chahte thay ki main kisi aur director ke saath kaam karun (I thought he was jealous of me as I was becoming more famous than him. He did not want me to work with other directors). I got offers from big directors like Ram Gopal Varma, Mani Ratnam, Subhash Ghai and so on. He didn`t appreciate it at all,” she added.

Moreover, the actress has also said that Mahesh Bhatt slapped her when she expressed her desire to meet director-producer Subhash Ghai.

“He wanted me to only stick to his banner. One night, I had to meet Subhash Ghai at a hotel. Jab maine Maheshji ko kaha, toh woh bahut furious hue aur mujh par bahut chillaye, aur unhone mujhe do teen thappad bhi mare (When I told him I wanted to meet Subhash Ghai, he shouted at me and even spalled me thrice),” said Meera.

The actress has claimed that Bhatt had special feelings for her. “Tum mein aur Pooja mein koi farak nahin hai... Aur phir kuch der baad kahte ki main tumhe kaafi chahta hun aur tum mere liye bahut special ho (You are as good as my daughter Pooja. And after sometime he would tell me, ‘You are very special to me’). It was difficult for me to tell what exactly he wanted from me.” daily times monitor

'Cheap Veena Malik is denigrating Pakistani women'

Pakistani actress Meera is not happy with the way her fellow actress Veena Malik conducted herself on Colors' reality show "Bigg Boss 4" and accuses her of portraying Pakistani women in poor light.

"Veena Malik is acting very cheap. The way she presented herself in front of Indian audiences is not right. She is denigrating the image of Pakistani women. This is not how women in Pakistan are, " Meera, who is in India to shoot for diector Faizal Khan's Hindi movie "Om Allah", told in an interview.

Her liplocking courted controversy after people in Pakistan raised objections and she was apparently fined for this. But right now she feels Veena has crossed all limits.

"If you come over to Pakistan, you will see how sensible and how cultured Pakistani women are. They respect their family values and are not how Veena has portrayed herself, " said the actress who herself became
controversial after her kissing scene with with Ashmit Patel in her Bollywood debut "Nazar".
Veena came into limelight after her name popped up in match-fixing allegations against Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif. She was the cricketer's girlfriend. She then entered the "Bigg Boss" house and her intimacy with Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel caused quite a stir, sending the TRPs soaring.

Meera alleges Veena's behaviour is a lousy way to garner publicity.

"She's doing all this because she is hungry for fame. She has no self-respect and is ready to do anything to become famous, " Meera said.

"She's like that even in Pakistan. She tries to copy everyone. She can never be her own self. This is not the right thing to do as there are many other nice ways to become famous. Why stoop down to cheap tactics, " she asked.

Meera claims she was also approached to be a part of "Bigg Boss" twice, but she refused it.

"I was approached to be the part of the show before and even for this season but when I came to know that Veena will also be a part of it, I refused, " she said.

Apart from Veena, the fourth season of "Bigg Boss" featured well-known Pakistani cross-dresser Begum Nawazish Ali.

After "Nazar", Meera featured in another Bollywood moive "Kasak" with Lucky Ali.

After doing "Kasak" in 2005, this is Meera's first Bollywood movie in five years.

"After 'Kasak', I went back to Pakistan. Later my parents did not allow me to act here as I was too young and they thought I might just fall for someone here (India) and get settled permanently, " she said.

"Moreover, the tension between India and Pakistan also kept me away. But now I am back and hope to sign more Bollywood projects, " she said.

Back home, Meera has been actively involved in charity work and has been working with former cricketer Imran Khan to raise funds for Pakistan's flood-affected victims.

"We would like to rope in Rani Mukerji for helping us to raise funds for the flood-affected victims in Pakistan. I plan to meet her during my trip here, " she said.

She has also expressed a desire to do charity work with Salman Khan and his Being Human organisation.

Now, 'troubled' Pak starlet Meera served legal notice to vacate house

LAHORE: Troubles for Pakistani actress Meera have increased furthermore, as she has been served a legal notice to vacate her house within the next 15 days.

The notice was sent by one Raja Khalid, who claimed that Meera had sold her house for 20 million rupees but is yet to vacate it, The Daily Times reports.

Meera, however, has rebuked the claims about selling the house and said that she has not received any such legal notice.

Earlier, Pakistani authorities had served a notice to Meera for failing to submit property tax for the past four years.

The Lollywood actress had failed to clear the tax dues despite several reminders from the tax department.

“Meera has been served a number of notices on her real name Irtiza Arbab but she failed to clear the tax dues. If she fails to submit the outstanding amount of217,000 rupees in property tax till January 15, her house will be sealed,” Excise Officer Malik Muhammad Aslam had said.

A few days ago Meera was held at the Karachi Airport for carrying two passports in her name on arrival from the US.

Meera, who went to the US on her second passport and returned on the previous one, may face three years imprisonment with penalty for infringing the Passport Act.

Meera had also been embroiled in a marriage scandal earlier.

Meera's dark past catches up with her

Just two days ago, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt was going all out to help Pakistani actress Meera who had apparently received death threats from a man in Lahore claiming to be her husband. But now it appears to him a case of Meera's past catching up with her."Yes, Meera did call from Lahore. Some guy claiming to be her husband tried to break into her home and kill her! At that time she seemed quite genuine in her call for help. Meanwhile Salman Taseer, the Governor of Punjab, was very prompt in taking action, but Meera was still inconsolable, " Bhatt told. However, the situation turned out to be quite different. Reports started making the rounds that the man in question was indeed Meera's husband and had papers and photographs to back his statement. Apparently, he tried to reach Meera, but her guards prevented him from entering her house."While I was trying to call people in Pakistan and take stock of the issue, I was informed by Sohail Khan, filmmaker from Pakistan, that news channels all over the country were beaming photographs of the couple as well as their 'nikaahnama' (marriage contract). This seemed to be substantial evidence that made me call up Meera again, " said Bhatt. Through the conversation that followed, "I realised that the situation wasn't as clean as it sounded earlier", Bhatt said. "Also, I could sense that Meera too wasn't as truthful as she wanted me to believe. "She, in fact, did admit that the two of them were in a relationship, but denied her marriage to him. She said that she would get back to me later, but that never happened." It was Mahesh Bhatt, who along with Mukesh Bhatt had launched Meera as an actor in Bollywood with "Nazar" (2005), which was directed by Soni Razdan. Meera was paired opposite Ashmit Patel in the film that had failed at the box office. This is not the first time that Meera has reached out to Bhatt for help. Last year she had landed up at Bhatt's house at around 2 a.m. after being troubled by a guy. At that time she was living in Mumbai and didn't have anyone else to help her. Bhatt had then asked Sevy Ali, who had produced "Nazar", to help out Meera. But she was miffed with him because he refused to shelter her.So what was it about Bhatt that made Meera call him again in her moment of distress? "Well, I do have contacts in Pakistan and know people in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. She felt that I could make a few calls and get help coming her way. I was in fact in the process of doing so as well. I know the Human Rights Commission and other organisations there and could have done all in my capacity."However, as things stand today, both Meera as well as the man in question has filed a case against each other. It's all boiling down to some property dispute between the two of them. I had warned Meera that her past would one day catch up with her. She is now bearing the brunt of it."
