Asha Bhosle has achieved a Guinness World Record for recording the largest number of songs.

The 78-year-old was awarded the honour at an awards function held in London on Thursday, PTI reports.

"Now I feel I am a recognised singer in the world. I thank my fans and hope they will continue to love me," Bhosle said.

The legendary Bollywood playback singer has recorded up to 11,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in over 20 Indian languages since 1947.

Bhosle thanked music researcher Vishwas Nerurkar for helping her claim the coveted title.

The singer will soon make her acting debut with Maaee. Directed by Mahesh Kodiyal, the film features Padmini Kolhapure as Bhosle's daughter.

"I wish they will appreciate my acting skills as much as they enjoyed my songs," Bhosle said.

Asha Bhosle to make acting debut

Asha Bhosle will reportedly make her acting debut in an upcoming Bollywood film.

The legendary playback singer has been cast as an elderly woman abandoned by her only son and forced to live with her daughter's family, New Kerala reports.

She told the site: "I connected so very strongly with it as a mother and a human being even though it was so far removed from my own life and experience."

Bhosle, 77, added that she could not let the role in Maaee pass by after reading the script.

Over the course of a career spanning nearly 70 years, Bhosle has sung on more than 1,000 Bollywood films.

She will be conferred this degree at the 17th convocation ceremony of the university at Nashik on Tuesday.

“In Nasik. Breakfast done. Doctor(ate) upma. Receiving D.Litt today. Leaving for convocation now. Will be wearing the black robes.” tweeted Bhosle to all her fans.
Media reports said that she will receive the degree from Chancellor and state governor K Sankaranarayanan.

Excited To Record Live After A Gap Of 30 Years

Veteran singer Asha Bhosle went through an age-old experience after about 30 years and she was visibly very excited about it. Yes, she got to record live for an album, which is something not executed at all in recent times. She has recorded an album titled "Naina Lagai Ke" with singer-sitarist Shujaat Khan, where all the songs are traditional and classical-based.

Speaking on her new album, she said that if a song is genuinely melodious it does not need the help of an orchestra. She also commented on the present song recording system. According to her, today's artists do not have to sing the songs at one go instead they can record it in parts. But earlier in case of live recordings singers had to sing the entire song together and Asha loves it that way.

She further added that she had a fantastic time recording it as "there was no interruption". She also said that she felt nice recording with traditional instruments as "all tunes and rhythms were in sync" and improvisations could be done later. No rehearsals were done before recording.

77-year-old Asha went out the memory lane when she was asked about her previous live recording. It was with Ghulam Ali, she said.

"Naina Lagai Ke" is being produced by SaReGaMaPa where she is working with a classical musician after a long time of 14 years.
