Carla Bruni, Nicolas Sarkozy expecting first child

Carla Bruni and France's President Nicolas Sarkozy are expecting their first child together.
Speculation over Bruni's pregnancy erupted in May when she cancelled a scheduled appearance to promote Midnight in Paris at the Cannes Film Festival.

Her father-in-law Pal fueled the rumours a week later when he told a German newspaper that he was "looking forward to [meeting his] grandkid".

Former model Bruni finally confirmed reports that she and Sarkozy are expecting an addition to their family in an interview with Nice-Matin, wherein she described the pregnancy as an "unexpected and unhoped for happiness".

When questioned about the sex of the child, the French First Lady replied: "That I do not know myself."

No due date has yet been confirmed, but many French publications have suggested the child will be born in October.

Bruni also revealed that she'd chosen to hide the news from the public for so long out of a desire to protect her family's privacy.

Sarkozy and Bruni met in 2007 and married several months later in a ceremony held at Élysée Palace in Paris.

Bruni is already the mother to a young son Aurélien, whom she had during her relationship with philosophy professor Raphäel Enthoven.

Carla Bruni 'cancels Cannes appearance'

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has cancelled her appearance at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The singer, actress and French first lady was due to attend the event in order to promote her role in Woody Allen's romantic comedy Midnight In Paris.

"I was dreaming of going [to Cannes]... I regret it but I cannot go for personal reasons and for professional reasons, unfortunately," she told RTL Radio.

The announcement only served to further speculation that Bruni-Sarkozy is expecting her first child, rumours which she has refused to comment on to the press.

When questioned by the station whether the reports have anything to do with her decision to pull out of Cannes, she answered: "[My] lips are, in a sense, sealed."

Woody Allen previously revealed that he was "delighted by" Bruni-Sarkozy's performance in Midnight In Paris.

The 64th Cannes Film Festival runs between May 11 and May 22.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy stays coy over pregnancy

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has refused to address rumours that she is pregnant with her first child.

In a feature for Le Parisien, the French first lady spoke with six readers, one of whom asked her directly whether she and president Nicolas Sarkozy are expecting a baby following reports which surfaced last week in Closer, claiming that she would welcome a son later this year.

"If you'll allow me, I'd rather not answer these family questions," she responded. "But on this subject, in some ways my lips are sealed. Not through arrogance or because I like keeping secrets."

She went on to say that the discussion would distract from more important matters, adding: "My lips are sealed to protect something and to protect all the work [my husband] does. I would really like to talk about it, but then it would take over everything else."

The baby would be the fourth for Sarkozy, who is already father to two sons from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli and one son from his marriage to Cécilia Ciganer-Albéniz.

Carla Bruni appears in 'Midnight in Paris' trailer

PARIS: The trailer for Woody Allen's next movie "Midnight in Paris" is out on the Internet, featuring French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in the gardens of the Rodin museum.

The romantic comedy, starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as a young American couple in the French capital, is set to open the Cannes film festival on May 11, with general release in New York and Los Angeles on May 20.

Supermodel-turned-songwriter Bruni, 43, pops up 35 seconds into the trailer, sporting a light jacket, T-shirt, jeans and clipboard in her role as a museum guide in the garden that is home to Auguste Rodin's sculpture "The Thinker".

Much of the rest of the trailer is made up of easy-on-the-eyes postcard views of Paris -- as well as a broad hint about the flashback storyline when Williams is seen straying into an elegant 1920s milieu.

Others starring in "Midnight in Paris" include Oscar winners Marion Cotillard and Kathy Bates, as well as Welsh-born actor Michael Sheen.

Bruni-Sarkozy married French President Nicolas Sarkozy in February 2008. Her older sister Valeria Bruni Tedeschi is an actress who has appeared in several internationally acclaimed films.

French vote Bruni as most annoying star

The French public has voted model and singer Carla Bruni as their nation's most annoying celebrity.

French magazine VSD ran an online poll where 1,713 people were quizzed on their least favourite celebrities, sports stars and politicians. Bruni, who recently completed her first acting role in Woody Allen's upcoming Midnight in Paris, was found annoying by 52% of voters.

Actor Alain Delon was in second place, while Jean de Florette and Hollywood star Gérard Depardieu was third.

Bruni's husband, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was fourth in the politician vote - as 63% of voters found him annoying.

Allen previously said that he was "delighted" by Bruni's work on Midnight in Paris and didn't find her hard to work with.

Bruni still in film, says Woody Allen

Ace Hollywood filmmaker Woody Allen has refuted reports he cut scenes featuring French first lady Carla Bruni from his upcoming film, insisting he's delighted with her work.

The former model and singer joined Owen Wilson on the set of Midnight in Paris to film scenes as a tour guide back in July, but reports surfaced earlier this month claiming Allen was unhappy with Bruni's work and decided not to include her in the final edit, reports contactmusic.com.

But the 74-year-old filmmaker has dismissed the rumours, telling reporters everything the beauty filmed has made the movie.

"This is a hundred percent untrue. She's in the picture. Everything she shot is in the picture. I love her. She's great. It's not a big part, but it's a respectable part. Everything was totally made up," he said. He also cleared up reports Bruni was difficult to work with.

"She was no problem at all. I was delighted with her," he said.

Bruni replaced by her look-alike in Woody Allen's film?

French First Lady Carla Bruni is reportedly being cut out of Woody Allen's movie Midnight in Paris.

Bruni has allegedly been replaced by a far younger look-alike Lea Seydoux, who has already been hired to re-shoot all of her scenes.

"The American director has taken the precaution of filming the First Lady's scenes with someone else," The Daily Mail quoted a movie insider as telling celebrity Paris website Bakchich.info.

Bruni was the centre of attention and amusement when she took dozens of takes to perform a few simple dramatic tasks during the shoot, even when all she had to do was walk in and out of a bread shop while saying nothing, and then carrying a small baguette while looking serious.

And now with 25-year-old Seydoux on the scene, Bruni's dream of starring alongside Owen Wilson and Marion Cotillard, the remaining star cast of this film, is more or less over.

"While there's obvious novelty value in getting France's first lady to carry a baguette around Paris, Lea is a far better actress. She'll get people flowing into the cinemas, which in the end is what a professional film is all about," said a film industry source.

Besides that, Seydoux would cost the director a lot lesser. She is also a much safer bet than Bruni, because she has already proved her acting skills in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds before getting a leading role in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood.

Bruni meanwhile, has admitted she could well be a 'terrible' actress; even though she wants to one day tell her grandchildren that she appeared in a Woody Allen film.

A representative for Seydoux, however, tells France's Voici magazine that she was just added to the cast and Bruni is still doing the film.

The Iranian newspaper dubbed Carla Bruni prostitute

The Iranian daily Kayhan called the first lady of France "prostitute." Edition afford such insolence, so that brighter disagree with the position of Carla Bruni, which actively protects Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiany - Iranian woman sentenced to death for treason and involvement in her husband's death. But the matter is not in the death penalty, but in its execution. By Iranian law for such a crime a woman publicly stoned to death. In general, it is barbarism, and this fact could not leave indifferent wife of French president. Armed with the support of international human rights organizations and the actress Isabelle Adjani, Charles signed the petition, which calls for an end to such cruelty.
In order to demonstrate the cruelty of this type of penalty, in Paris, made a real theatrical staging of this horrendous action.
Naturally, the Iranian government did not like the criticism of the First Lady, and in response to her in a local newspaper published an article by a very shocking headline "The French prostitutes joined the protest of human rights defenders" (appeal also applies to the Isabella Adjani). The publication in very rough form described model Carla Bruni past, her relationship with men and others, in the opinion of the editorial board, immoral aspects of her life.
Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni, had no immediate comment on the attacks by the Iranian media, but, I think, will soon be some sort of official response to this shocking articles.

Model-singer Carla Bruni, wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, has accepted Hollywood filmmaker Woody Allen's offer to appear in his next

France's first lady, who appeared on Canal television Monday to perform a cover of the "Beatles' And I Love Her" with the American entertainer Harry Connick Jnr, said Allen had asked her to work with him after a visit to Paris in June, guardian.co.uk reports. "Woody Allen kindly asked me not to do a film with anyone else before him," she said, admitting that she had said yes. She did not give any details of the role intended for her. "If anything concrete ever comes of it, it would be a great experience for me," she added. The 42-year-old Bruni said: "I go into everything blindly, or I'd never do anything at all. I am not an actress at all. Maybe I'll be completely hopeless, but I can't miss an opportunity like this one in my life. When I'm a grandmother, I'd like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen."
