James Bond to hold 50th anniversary exhibition

James Bond movie bosses are staging the biggest ever exhibition of iconic props from the spy films, to mark the 50th birthday of the franchise this year.

Eon Productions chiefs have released a dazzling array of costumes, gadgets and cars from the 007 movies to go on display in London in the summer.

The famous exhibits include 'Goldfinger' henchman Oddjob's bowler hat, the metal teeth sported by Jaws in two 1970s Bond films, Scaramanga's pistol from 'The Man With The Golden Gun', 007's spacesuit from 'Moonraker', and a deck of tarot cards seen in 'Live and Let Die', the Daily Express reported.

The flick-knife shoes worn by SPECTRE agent Rosa Klebb in 'From Russia with Love', a waterproof camera from 'Thunderball', Halle Berry's orange bikini from 'Die Another Day', Bond's underwater Lotus car from 'The Spy Who Loved Me', and Daniel Craig's famous blue swimming trunks will also be on display.

The exhibition will even feature some of Bond's personal effects, including his black American Express card and his passport - which reveals he travels under the false name Arlington Beech. Source:http://www.newkerala.com

India orders James Bond train stunt rewrite

NEW DELHI, Sept 3, 2011 (AFP) - India has asked the makers of the latest James Bond movie to change a stunt showing people travelling on train rooftops, saying it would depict the state-run railway in a poor light.

"Rooftop travel is illegal in India and it cannot be encouraged," Indian Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi told AFP on Saturday. Many Indians seek to avoid paying for tickets by travelling on the roof.

Daniel Craig, who plays the world's most famous secret agent, was supposed to jump from a motorcycle onto a moving train roof packed with travellers and then leap to another equally crowded train top, according to the script.

Trivedi said 007 could perform the stunt — but only if there is nobody on the top of the trains.

"Rooftop travel will not be shown," he said, adding that the government has also stipulated the filming "has to be safe and passengers should not be inconvenienced."

The railways minister said that the original movie script could have led to an impression that rooftop travel was common in India.

"There are many trains in India and not all trains have people travelling on the rooftops," he argued.

The makers of the as-yet untitled movie — known currently only as "Bond 23" — had agreed to the conditions, Trivedi said in a telephone interview.

The film is to be directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes and will be shot in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and the resort state of Goa. Shooting is planned for February and March next year and the film is slated for release in November 2012.

Trivedi also said he is plugging for the James Bond character to be used to promote the sprawling Indian Railways, still the country's main form of long-distance travel despite fierce competition from new private airlines.

"I have proposed that the spy says something like: 'Indian Railways is as strong as James Bond.' It is my suggestion," the cabinet-ranking minister said.

The state-run railway is the country's largest single employer, with 1.4 million workers, and runs 11,000 trains carrying 19 million passengers daily.

The world's second-largest railway offers some adventurous journeys where trains chug through arid deserts, snowy Himalayan regions and across rickety British-built bridges spanning mountain gorges and fast-flowing rivers.

Trivedi declined to say if the film-makers had agreed to give Bond licence to become cast ambassador for the creaking railway system, which is plagued by frequent crashes.

The last time a Bond film was on location in India was for the 1983 hit "Octopussy", with actor Roger Moore in the lead role. It was shot in the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

"Bond 23" is one of nearly two dozen films by foreign studios which have been cleared to shoot in India recently.

Others include a film adaptation of Mohsin Hamid's novel "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", "Trishna", British director Michael Winterbottom's version of Thomas Hardy's classic "Tess of the d'Urbervilles", and Yann Martel's "Life of Pi". Credit :

23rd James Bond movie to hit theatres next year

The 23rd 'James Bond' film will be released late next year.
MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced the news on Thursday.

The eagerly anticipated next episode of the all-action spy thriller will hold its traditionally lavish London premiere on October 26 at the Odeon Leicester Square, before opening in the U.S. on November 9, reports the Daily Mail.

Actor Daniel Craig would return for his third stint as the agent with a licence to kill in the as-yet-untitled film.
Dame Judi Dench would also reprise her role as M, while Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem are both rumoured to be joining the cast.

The ‘American beauty’ and ‘Revolutionary road’ tour de force Sam Mendes is to take over the directorial duties from Marc Forster, who helmed Quantum Of Solace in 2008.

Online rumours also suggested that Israeli model Esti Ginzburg is a hot favourite to become the next Bond girl.

Cinematographer Roger Deakins has confirmed on his fan forum last month that the work on the project was in its early stages.

“Yes, I can say that I am doing the next ''Bond'' film. It is early days and the film won''t shoot until November,” he had written.

James Bond shooting in Mumbai

The 23rd film in the franchise to be shot in and around the city James Bond might well be coming to town sometime soon.

A highly-placed source informs that Bond 23, the newest film in the hugely successful franchise will be shooting in and around Mumbai.

John Barry dies, aged 77

OBITUARY: John Barry. Composer. Born York, England, November 3, 1933. Died New York, January 30, aged 77.

JOHN Barry did not get the chance to see any footage and had not read any of Ian Fleming's books when he was called in to work on the music for the first James Bond film, Dr No (1962), for which Monty Norman had originally been commissioned to write the score.

"I was just given a timing and told that it was about this Secret Service guy," said Barry, who'd had a few instrumental hits and was already a minor pop star.

The resulting piece of music became one of the most familiar themes in cinema and also one of the most argued over. The official composer credit went to Norman, though the music, as it is used in the film, has the distinctive mix of twangy guitar and brass that was so characteristic of Barry at that time.
During the next quarter century, Barry composed music for a series of James Bond films. He perfected the formula for the big, ballsy theme song on the third instalment, Goldfinger (1964), with the aid of the lyricists Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and the singer Shirley Bassey. He combined sweeping strings and aggressive brass, fusing pop, jazz, cabaret and musical theatre in something akin to a mini-opera. His monumental theme tunes and powerful scores became vital elements in the classic Bond movies.

Although Barry is most widely celebrated for Bond, he composed for more than 100 films and television programs. He won five Oscars - best song and musical score for Born Free (1966), The Lion in Winter (1968), Out of Africa (1985) and Dances with Wolves (1990) - but never got a nomination for the Bond films.

Born John Barry Prendergast in York in 1933, he showed early musical talent. His father owned several cinemas and Barry became a keen filmgoer, making notes about the films he enjoyed and why. He played the piano as a boy and developed an interest in trumpet in his teens.

After leaving school he played in a dance band and did his national service as a bandsman in Egypt and Cyprus. He left the army and formed his own band, the John Barry Seven, who became regulars on the BBC pop show Drumbeat (1959), with Barry on trumpet. Barry also wrote and arranged songs for Adam Faith, and this association led to Barry first getting involved in films. Faith was cast in Beat Girl (1959) and Barry composed the music.

He had his first Top 20 hit in 1960 with Hit and Miss, the theme for the popular BBC show Juke Box Jury (1959-67). Other hits followed, a mix of original compositions and cover versions, and he also worked on another Faith film, Never Let Go (1960).

No one had any idea just how successful the James Bond films would become when production began on Dr No early in 1962. The producers wanted a piece of music that could serve as a signature theme across several movies. There was talk of bringing in someone of the calibre of William Walton to do further work, but the producers Harry Saltzman and Cubby Broccoli opted for Barry, who was young, cheap and fashionable. Another option was Cliff Richard's group the Shadows.

Crucially, however, Barry had experience of film soundtracks and of arranging pre-existing music. He was hired for a flat fee of pound stg. 250 plus possible involvement in future Bond films.

Although Barry did not get to see any footage, he did meet Norman, who had suggested several pieces of music as the main theme. The basic melody of the eventual theme appears to bear similarity to a piece of music written by Norman for an unproduced stage musical, though the mix of twanging guitar and brass was characteristic of Barry.

Norman retained the composer credit for the tune while Barry and his band recorded it. In 2001, Norman won a libel case against The Sunday Times for an article that falsely suggested Barry had written it. Norman was awarded damages after successfully arguing that the article had damaged his reputation by suggesting that he had wrongly taken credit (and royalties) for the Bond theme.

Goldfinger was the first in a series of theme songs for which Barry wrote the music. Bricusse said later he and Newley tried to match the tongue-in-cheek humour of the action. "I thought it was the silliest lyric I ever wrote," he said. Barry believed the entire score was important, and the Goldfinger soundtrack topped the charts in Britain and the US.

Barry left his first wife for a Swedish woman but that relationship faltered, too, and he enjoyed the single life in London, often in the company of Michael Caine and Terence Stamp.

He wrote his first stage musical, Passion Flower Hotel (1965), with lyricist Trevor Peacock and writer Wolf Mankowitz. The cast included Pauline Collins, Francesca Annis and the 18-year-old Jane Birkin, who had a tiny part in The Knack and would shortly become Barry's second wife, despite the marked gap in their ages. The marriage lasted only a few years.

Barry would go through a third marriage and third divorce by the early 1970s. His fourth marriage, in the late 70s, proved more lasting. He and his wife Laurie, who survives him, lived on Long Island, New York, with their son. Barry had three other children from other relationships.

Some of his best music was for non-Bond projects: the wistful, rolling theme on harmonica from Midnight Cowboy (1969), the haunting score for the BBC mafia drama Vendetta (1966-68), and his optimistic piece The Girl with the Sun in Her Hair (1968), used for a shampoo commercial.

He had another go at musical theatre, teaming up with Alan Jay Lerner in 1971 for a short-lived musical version of Lolita. He fared much better with Billy (1974-76), a West End adaptation of Keith Waterhouse's Billy Liar.

Barry collaborated with several lyricists on the Bond theme songs, including, on Live and Let Die (1973), Paul McCartney. He remained one of cinema's top composers through the 70s and 80s. His last two Bond theme songs, for A View to a Kill (1985) and The Living Daylights (1987), were top 10 hits for Duran Duran and A-ha. His melancholy, nostalgic scores contributed significantly to the Oscar triumphs of Out of Africa and Dances with Wolves.

Sean Connery says no to James Bond's 50th anniversary

"James Bond" movie bosses were left disappointed after veteran actor Sean Connery declined an invitation to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the superspy series next year.

The Scottish star was the first ever actor to portray the suave British secret agent '007' in 1962 film "Dr No", and went on to play James Bond seven times.

The series is set to return to the big screen with Daniel Craig playing 007 agent for the third time. The release of the new film will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

The bosses at MGM studio are planning to mark the milestone with a special event in which all former Bonds talk about their dealings with the character, aceshowbiz.com reports.

Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby and Roger Moore are all in talks to be part of the celebrations, but Connery has snubbed the organisers.

"Not having Sean would be a sad thing for these celebrations. We hope he will change his mind," a source said.

Sean Connery statue unveiled in Estonia

A statue of Oscar-winning actor Sean Connery has been erected in the Estonian capital of Tallinn.

The James Bond star was honoured with the bust which was placed outside the whiskey-sampling Scottish Club. The venue is known to celebrate "Scots who have made a difference".

The sculpture was crafted by Tiiu Kirsipuu and cost £9,330 to build. It was funded by private donations, according to WENN.

British Ambassador Peter Carter announced to guests at the unveiling: "Sir Sean Connery is, without a doubt, an icon. He is variously known as James Bond or the sexiest man of the century.

"He's a great British actor, a great Scot actor and a great symbol for Scotland."

My name is Bond.......James Bond

Ian Fleming’s book series created a bang in the film industry with the creation of the James Bond franchise. Today, 007 encapsulates more than just a chic government agent – it epitomizes style, sophistication and thrill. The classic films are known for their eloquent sway of fighting action, drama and luring romance. From tech savvy equipment that introduced a watch with drill burning laser beams to an invincible car that became invisible with the click of a cellular phone button – James Bond made classy look tempting on a whole new level.

The film delineates a lifestyle, a trend that everyone the world over aspires to have with the latest gadgets, the branded clothes, the exotic travel locations, the extravagant spending habits and the undeniably hot female co stars that complete the package. Many a hot sensation including contemporary stars like Eva Green and Halle Berry have shared the screen with Bond; their presence adding poise and glamour. The lead female actor has always been an anticipatory factor in the eyes of the audience, and now rumour has it that Frieda Pinto might be the next Bond girl in the upcoming feature. A source said: “She was too young at the time to have a part as a love interest for a secret agent. But she has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect on Daniel Craig’s arm.”

Speculations are rife that the British super spy will head to the glitzy Gulf emirate of Dubai, itself no stranger to real-life espionage and assassination, in a new book titled Carte Blanche, its author said on Tuesday. “This place is so culturally vibrant, so picturesque, so full of fascinating, multicultural individuals, in Carte Blanche, Bond is “a young agent for the British government. He was born, roughly, in the late 1970s, and the book takes place in the present day.” Jeffery Deaver said during a talk in Dubai. “This is an exotic city that is worthy of James Bond.” After agreeing to write the next Bond novel, “I knew at that point, at last, I had found a story to set in Dubai,” the book is due out in May this year.

Sex And The City was the last film that was shot in the UAE and disappointed fans terribly. Only time will tell whether the new 007 film will live up to the expectations built by its predecessors.

Original James Bond gun sells for £227,250

A fan has paid £227,250 ($439,000) in an auction for the original gun held by Sean Connery in the publicity shots for From Russia With Love.

The auction, which took place at Christie's auction house in the UK, featured a variety of classic character-related film items. In addition to the gun in question, the auction also put up a Darth Vader costume from the film The Empire Strikes Back.

The Darth Vader costume failed to sell, but the gun fetched over ten times what it was expected to earn. It was believed that the gun would sell for between £15,000 and £20,000.

The gun, which is actually only an air pistol, was used in all of Connery's publicity shots for the Bond movie.

A spokeswoman for Christie's said of the sale: "The Bond franchise has stood the test of time."

'James Bond' film set to resume production

The production of new "James Bond" film is reportedly set to resume.
The 23rd Bond film, starring Daniel Craig, was put on hold indefinitely this year as the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) film studio fell into financial difficulty, reports dailystar.co.uk.

The firm filed for bankruptcy this week and announced plans for a massive restructuring of the company's finances.

The film project, which was kept on hold, is now se to resume. The film will release in November 2012.

James Bond based on real life agent?

A new history of the Secret Intelligence Service has revealed that one of James Bond’s most famous scenes was inspired by the wartime exploits of an MI6 spy.

The moment when the fictional spy emerges from the water in a wetsuit and plants explosives before unzipping the suit to reveal a spotless dinner suit really took place during the Second World War.

The scene where Bond, played by Sean Connery, emerges in his wetsuit in the 1964 movie Goldfinger was inspired by the real life exploits of Dutch agent Pieter Tazelaar, according to ‘MI6’ by Keith Jeffery, the first official history of SIS.

Tazelaar was sent in by sea in 1940 to make contact with agents in Holland.

The book recounts that he ‘put ashore at 4.35am on 23 November at Scheveningen near the seafront casino in full evening dress and smelling of alcohol, wearing a specially designed rubber oversuit to keep him dry while landing, reports the Daily Mail.

'Rather than leaving him somewhere on the dunes, the aim was for him to be able to mingle with the crowd on the front.

‘Having landed on the beach his colleague Erik Hazelhof sprinkled a few drops of Hennessy XO brandy on him, to strengthen his party-goer’s image’.

Professor Keith Jeffery, of Queen’s University, Belfast, was given unrestricted access to the surviving historic files of the Secret Intelligence Service. But his work only covers the period up to 1949 and he was banned from revealing the identities of spies that are not already in the public domain.

The book also confirms that one of the templates for James Bond was another spy with the unpromising name of Wilfred ‘Biffy’ Dunderdale.

‘When head of the SIS Paris station in the 1930s, he had a penchant for pretty women and fast cars and has been proposed as one of the possible models for Bond,’ the book reports.

‘He was a great friend of Ian Fleming and claimed that he found parts of his own stories in the James Bond novels.’

Another model for Bond’s exploits might have been Air Commodore Lionel ‘Lousy’ Payne.

He was described in an SIS report as ‘often well informed, probably due to the fact that information is more readily obtained in bed’.

James Bond film back on track?

Daniel Craig could return as James Bond in the upcoming installment of the franchise, following reports that the latest 007 film is back on track.

Sam Mendes has pulled out of negotiations to direct futuristic thriller The Hunger Games because MGM are ready to move forward with production on Bond 23.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the shooting for the movie could begin by late summer or early autumn 2011. Earlier, the Bond flick was put on indefinite hold, with EON Productions blaming the financial difficulties of MGM studios, which is reported to have a 3.7 billion-dollar debt, reports the Mirror.

MGM announced this week that its lenders have agreed to extend the company's debt repayment period further.

The studio, which also has a stake in the forthcoming Hobbit movie, is going through a pre-packaged bankruptcy before Spyglass takes over.

Daniel Craig secretly marries girlfriend

Bond star Daniel Craig is said to have secretly married Japanese girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell after he was spotted with a gold ring on his wedding finger.

Mitchell, 30, also had a ring on the third finger of her left hand. However, a spokesman for Craig refused to confirm, insisting that it was "a private matter".

The wedding band was on display as he and Satsuki held hands when they left an ?Artists for Peace and Justice' meeting in Brentwood, California. The wedding band was also visible during the "Help Haiti" telethon appeal, reports dailymail.co.uk.

"We all suspect they have got married. He has always said Satsuki is the one but he didn't want a big showbiz wedding, that would be his worst nightmare. He's very private," said a source.

Next James Bond Film Gets Writers

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan joins Neal Purvis and Robert Wade in penning the newest installment of the James Bond series, 'Bond 23'.
The latest news coming in for "Bond 23" suggested that the latest installment of the superspy series is stepping closer into production with the hiring of its writers. For this new Bond movie, producers have brought in the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan to pen the screenplay. 46-year-old Morgan, who is known for his work in "The Queen", "Frost/Nixon" and "The Last King of Scotland", won't be working on the script alone though. He will be joined by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have co-written the past four Bond features that include "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace". Ever since "Quantum of Solace" came out in theaters in November 2008, speculations have been mounting on the development of "Bond 23". Several actresses, such as Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie as well as "Slumdog Millionaire" beauty Freida Pinto, have been rumored to be potential Bond girl. "Slumdog" director Danny Boyle was also caught in its helmer rumor. So far, little is known about "Bond 23", but two-time James Bond depicter Daniel Craig is expected to reprise his role for the third time. Meanwhile, the start of production on "Bond 23" has not yet been scheduled

Jennifer Aniston considered for next Bond girl role

Actress Jennifer Aniston may become the new Bond girl in the next spy adventure. The former Friends actress is reportedly under consideration for the next installment in the spy series after admitting it was a dream of hers.

The 40-year-old stunner, recently, admitted that she would love to be a part of the action-packed series.

"I'd love to do an action movie. James Bond. Glamour. Daniel Craig. Loads of fun,” The Daily Express quoted her, as saying. Now, sources have suggested that Bond bosses are seriously considering her.

A source at the franchise's production company EON said, "We're always looking for the next Bond girl. She has to be beautiful but she also needs to have brains.

"It helps if she's athletic and able to keep up with the intense stunt work a Bond movie demands. Jennifer has all these qualities. It's great to hear she'd love to do a movie because we have used established actresses before such as Teri Hatcher and Denise Richards. It's great she's a fan.

"After her comments it's likely she'll be called in to meet [producers] Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson when we start on the next one.

Jennifer already had her own informal 'screen-test' to see how she would work with Daniel when the pair hit it off at the Night Before Party during the Oscars' weekend.

The meteoric rise of Daniel Craig as Bond star

When Daniel Craig first heard from the Bond producers that he had got the part of the super spy, he was in a store buying dishwashing tablets. After the call, he dropped them and bought a bottle of vodka instead. This perfectly sums up Craig.Without the James Bond role, Craig would have very likely ended his career in anonymity, toiling in critically acclaimed but unacknowledged roles. He never cared for fame, reluctantly took up the Bond role, but is now positioned to be one of the biggest stars of his generation. The two recent releases starring him - "Quantum Of Solace" and "Flashbacks of a Fool" - perfectly point out the ambiguity of Craig."Quantum Of Solace" is a big- budget 22nd instalment of the Bond franchise and "Flashbacks Of A Fool" is a small independent movie, which he took on mainly because a good friend (Baillie Walsh) of his directed the movie with him in mind for the lead role. When Craig was announced as the new Bond, almost everyone was surprised, but not pleasantly. There was severe backlash and the nasty criticism carried on well into the filming of his debut in "Casino Royale".But after the smashing success of the movie and Craig's brilliant performance of a more raw, muscular, gritty, darker Bond, the actor has been flying high and is well on his way to becoming one of the most popular Bonds. The beauty in the meteoric rise of Craig's stardom is the absolute obscurity from which he rose. He did not have a major hit. He did star in the hit "Elizabeth", but even there he played a monk featured in very few scenes, who is only remembered for bashing someone's head with a rock.He also starred in the critically acclaimed "Munich" directed by Steven Spielberg, but played second fiddle to Eric Bana. Hardly anybody would have heard of the movies that Craig starred in before he became famous. There was "The Mother" (2003) where he played an unhappily married building contractor having an affair with a woman and her old mother. That same year he starred in the forgettable "Sylvia" co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In "Infamous", he played a killer involved in a torrid homosexual relationship with the complicated author Truman Capote. The only role that looked somewhat similar to the Bond role he would take on in the future was in "Layer Cake" where he played a violent drug dealer. Though Craig appeared in numerous below the radar roles, there was one aspect of his acting that he has effortlessly transplanted into the Bond role - intensity. Craig's Bond is not only muscular but also more dangerous. Even his sexuality is more primordial. In one scene in "Casino Royale", he emerges from the sea in just his swimming trunks, his well-toned body glistening. Later he is captured by the villain, tied up naked and tortured. In both, his body is on display but used to relay contrasting messages.Craig clearly had to shoulder one of the weightiest burdens of any actor in recent memory when he took on the Bond role. He was a virtual unknown, the first blonde Bond to be born after the franchise began and clearly the most gifted of all Bond actors. He has more than fulfilled all expectations and is a bona fide superstar. He is here to stay.

James Bond rules worldwide box office

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The latest James Bond thriller dominated the box office in much of the world during the weekend, boosted by a record opening in North America, distributor Columbia Pictures said on Sunday.
"Quantum of Solace" sold $70.4 million worth of tickets in its first three days of release across the United States and Canada. Industry pundits had forecast an opening in the $60 million range.
The record for a Bond opening in North America was held by "Die Another Day," which earned $47.1 million during its first weekend in November 2002. That film was the last one starring Pierce Brosnan.
"Quantum of Solace" and its 2006 predecessor "Casino Royale," which opened to $40.8 million, starred Daniel Craig. The laconic English actor has invested the famed agent with a darker, more complicated personality.
The new film also earned $56.1 million in 73 countries during the weekend. Having begun its international run two weeks ago, the foreign total now stands at $251.6 million. With a worldwide haul of $322 million, the film is fast approaching the $594 million tally of "Casino Royale."
BOND RULES BRITAIN, FRANCE
Britain was the top foreign market with sales to date of $64.1 million, while Germany and France have each kicked in about $26 million. "Quantum" has already earned more in France than "Casino Royale" did during its entire run there, Columbia said.
The $200 million film was directed by Swiss-German filmmaker Marc Forster, who made his name with smaller pieces such as the Oscar-winning domestic-abuse saga "Monster's Ball" and the James Barrie melodrama "Neverland."
While critics have approved of Bond's less-campy demeanor, they were less than enthused about the plot of new film. Bond travels the world battling a villain (French actor Mathieu Amalric) looking to control natural resources. Along the way, the vengeful hero earns the enmity of the British and U.S. spy agencies.
The Wall Street Journal described the film as "a model of mediocrity," while the Washington Post said it was an "often visually incoherent travelogue of revenge and trumped-up angst."
The film is billed as a 50/50 partnership with closely held Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. Columbia, a unit of Sony Corp, oversaw production, marketing and distribution and funded most of the $200 million production budget. MGM has ancillary rights, such as DVD distribution.
Elsewhere in North America, last weekend's champion "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" slipped to No. 2 with $36.1 million. After 10 days, DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc's cartoon sequel has already earned $118 million -- 18 percent ahead of the pace of its 2005 predecessor, which finished its run with $193.6 million.
There were no other major new releases. But in the art-house world, "Slumdog Millionaire" earned $350,434 from 10 theaters in six cities. On a per-theater basis, it earned 72 percent more than "Quantum of Solace." British filmmaker Danny Boyle directed the film about an Indian slum-dweller who competes on a "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"-type game show.
The film, which has generated some Oscar buzz, was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, a unit of News Corp.

Craig bares it all!

Bond star Daniel Craig, whose record-breaking ‘Quantum Of Solace’ collected a 4.9 million pounds on its opening day, will be leaving nothing to imagination, all thanks to his nude scene in ‘Flashbacks Of A Fool’.

The 40-year-old is seen lying naked on a bed exposing his ripping abs and toned body while he features as Joe Scott, a self-destructive English actor who reflects upon his life following the death of his best friend. The Casino Royale actor bares himself for the British drama film, directed by Baillie Walsh, that also stars Felicity Jones, Harry Eden, Claire Forlani, Emilia Fox and Eve, reports the Sun . The Brit had also shot a steamy scene with new Bond girl Gemma Aterton for the latest 007 flick Quantum of Solace .

Daniel Craig loves doing onscreen romps

James Bond star Daniel Craig enjoys filming love making scenes because the on-screen romps make shooting whole movies "easier".

The super spy has had a gala time ‘romping’ Bond girls like Eva Green, and Gemma Arterton in new movie ‘Quantum of Solace’. However, the hunk admits it''s a welcome break from the intense action scenes throughout the rest of the superspy films, because he doesn''t need to put too much thought into them. "I'm an actor so I''ve been an exhibitionist for as long as I can remember,” Contactmusic quoted him, as saying. "Those love scenes make the shoot a bit easier. But I guess if I stopped to think about them it would probably be quite embarrassing,” he added.

Craig to star in third Bond film

Daniel Craig will return as Bond for the third time, confirmed producer Barbara Broccoli. Thesun.co.uk reports that Broccoli was speaking on a radio station and said: "Oh please! Are you kidding? He's got to come back, we're not going to let him go. Are you crazy?" Craig featured as the secret agent for the first time in "Casino Royale" and in the forthcoming Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" he will once again play the 007 agent. Co-producer Michael Wilson added: "It would be insane not to bring him back. He is the greatest Bond right now and the people love him." When asked if Olga Kurylenko would also return, Broccoli indicated that it was a strong possibility. She said: "I think she's a spectacular actress and she's done an amazing job in this movie. She blew us away. We would certainly love to have her back. If it's not in the next movie, then certainly in the future."
