Jeniffer Lopez topples Lady Gaga to lead Forbes celebrity power list

NEW YORK: Jennifer Lopez has topped the annual Forbes list of the 100 most powerful celebrities in the world, taking over from fellow pop singer Lady Gaga and beating out media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

The 42-year-old singer, actress and dancer, who rose up through the entertainment world ranks from her humble birthplace of the Bronx, New York, surprisingly jumped from 50th place on last year's list that measures power by entertainment related earnings, media visibility and social media popularity.

Forbes estimated Lopez' earnings in the past 12 months at $52 million, and her top ranking is powered by her lucrative gig as a judge on popular television show, "American Idol," a new clothing line at Kohl's, a top-selling fragrance and millions of Twitter and Facebook followers. She also just announced her first upcoming world tour, joined by Enrique Iglesias.

Winfrey, who has admitted struggling with her OWN TV network after ending "The Oprah Winfrey Show" syndicated TV chat show last year after 25 years, kept her No. 2 slot from last year, earning an estimated $165 million.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, 18, also stayed at No. 3 where he debuted last year, earning $55 million, with Forbes reporting he has become a serious investor whose portfolio includes music streaming service Spotify.

Pop star Rihanna landed on the list for the first time with estimated earnings of $53 million due to hits in the past year such as "We Found Love," and "Talk That Talk," while also landing lucrative endorsement deals with the likes of Nivea and Vita Coco, Forbes said.

Dropping four places from last year, Lady Gaga was ranked No. 5, earning $52 million, while new "The X Factor" judge Britney Spears returned to the list after a one-year hiatus landing at No. 6, earning an estimated $58 million helped by a successful tour.

Kim Kardashian was also a notable newcomer at No. 7. She earned $18 million - the lowest amount in the top ten - but attracted ample media attention for her splashy wedding and divorce. Pop singer Katy Perry landed at No. 8.

Rounding off the top ten was Tom Cruise at No. 9 with the comeback success of his "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" movie that earned nearly $700 million at the global box office, and Steven Spielberg's various ventures in TV and movies earned him an estimated $130 million to place him at No. 10.

British singer Adele entered the list at No. 24 after a record-equaling six Grammy haul and returning to live performing after surgery on her vocal chords.

Among big names to drop off the list was Charlie Sheen after his "Two and a Half Men" exit. His replacement on the show, Ashton Kutcher debuted on the list at No. 51.

The collective earnings power of the top 100 dropped slightly in 2012, with this year's crop earning a collective total of $4.4 billion, down from $4.5 billion in 2011. (Reuters)

Kim Kardashian admits she is "almost embarrassed" about her televised nuptials. The ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star’s lavish wedding to Kris Humphries was broadcast in a two-episode special last August and she admits she now feels more "guarded" after filing for the divorce from the basketball player after just 72 days of marriage.

She said: "My hearts a little more guarded. I showed so much of myself in the past. You almost get embarrassed showing this big wedding, which I would have had cameras or not. So I think you want to just guard yourself." Marc Anthony files for divorce from Jennifer Lopez

LOS ANGELES: Latin pop singer Marc Anthony has filed for divorce from singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, ending their seven-year marriage.

Anthony filed the petition under his real name Marco Muniz on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple announced in July that they were splitting up.

Anthony also filed for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 4-year-old twins, Max and Emme.

"American Idol" judge Lopez, 42, and Anthony, 43, married in June 2004, months after Lopez's engagement to actor Ben Affleck ended, and days after Anthony's divorce from former Miss Puerto Rico Dayanara Torres was finalized.

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez, 42, and the 24-year-old back-up dancer reported as her new flame say age doesn't matter - and they have proudly tweeted it.

The singer and actress, who has not confirmed a romance with Casper Smart, retweeted messages from him saying other people's views don't matter and that "our hearts are endless."

"We should all honor our time here by indulging our passion and dreams. So, close your ears and open your hearts; Love and be happy!" said one comment retweeted by J.Lo, who split with husband Marc Anthony last year.

"Our ages are mere reminders of the hours logged on this earth and the precious time remaining ... Age, status, n opinions of others are irrelevant

Media reports suggest the pair have been dating for three months. She would not be the first older superstar to take a younger lover, following in the footsteps of Madonna and Demi Moore.

The New York-born, Puerto Rican singer and "American Idol" talent judge announced her split from Anthony last July. The former couple are parents to 3-year-old twins Max and Emme, born in February 2008.

In a strange turn of events, In Touch magazine has released its latest issue stating that Jada and Anthony are seeing each other, leading to Jada’s rumoured split with her star husband.

LONDON: Singer Jennifer Lopez will reportedly get 21 million pounds to return as a judge for the US version of “American Idol”.

The “On The Floor” hitmaker, who split from her husband Marc Anthony earlier this month after seven years together, will reportedly get the amount to reappear alongside fellow judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson on the singing reality show, reports the Sun newspaper.

Lopez is said to be earning $1 million to sing a live set at the July 19 wedding.

A representative for the 'On The Floor' singer confirmed the travel arrangements, while remaining quiet on the details.

"Jennifer will be performing in the Ukraine. Terms of the agreement can not be confirmed," the spokesperson said.

Lopez's stylist Phillip Bloch said that the singer "fought" to save her marriage to Anthony for the sake of the couple's twins Max and Emme.

It was previously reported that Lopez was eager to divorce Anthony.

A spokesperson confirmed earlier today that the pair will still work together on their reality TV show ¡Q'viva! The Chosen.

After taking time off to become a mother in 2008, the Bronx, New York-born, Puerto Rican actress returned to the public eye earlier this year with a star turn as one of three talent judges on "American Idol." She also released her seventh studio album, "Love?" in April.

LOS ANGELES: Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lopez are among nominees announced to get their star on Hollywood's storied Walk of Fame next year.

Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson and Malcolm McDowell can also get their names on the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk in 2012, while actor Richard Burton along with soul legend Barry White will get posthumous stars.

"The committee has selected a fabulous slate of stars to add sparkle and luster to the Hollywood Walk of Fame over the next year," said John Pavlik, chairman of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Selection Committee.

"Simpsons" creator Matt Groening was also nominated, along with John Lasseter and Sumner Redstone from the film world, and musicians Boyz II Men and Ann and Nancy Wilson of the band Heart.

The selection committee is part of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the golden stars on the stretch of Hollywood Boulevard near Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre, home to the Oscars.

The nominees were chosen from hundreds of applicants considered at a June 17 meeting of the committee, whose decision was ratified by the Chamber's board of directors.

Pop sensation Jennifer Lopez suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction live on German TV.

The 42-year-old singer who has been fiercely promoting her latest album, 'Love?' across Europe, exposed more than she intended to during a German TV show thanks to her low-cut dress, reported Daily Mail online.

It all started when the signer arrived on a horse drawn carriage for the live filming of a German show at the Coliseo Balear bull fighting arena in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The singer looked gorgeous in a floor-length beige and black dress with a matching head band and the crowds screamed as she waved.

But her flowing outfit, which was barely held together with a large brown belt, was probably not suited and kept whipping up in the windy weather.

Jennifer Lopez has revealed that she is hugely influenced by the work of Lady GaGa.

The American Idol judge told MTV News that she is a big fan of the 'Judas' singer, and that creative artists inspire her to experiment with her music.

"I'm always motivated by other artists and inspired by them," she explained. "They inspire me because when I see other people doing great things, it makes me want to do great things too."

"You can't copy or do anything like that - it just becomes weird - but if you're true to yourself and push your own boundaries and your limits, you can't help but come out with something great."

Bollywood composer Bappi Lahiri has claimed credit for the success of Jennifer Lopez's current UK number one single.

The veteran musician told PTI that 'On The Floor' shares distinct similarities with a tune he composed in 1990.

"Jennifer Lopez's new song 'On the Floor' that has a Lambada-sampling, and has become a huge hit, is identical to my song 'Sochna Kya Jo Bhi Hoga Dekha Jayega'," Lahiri said.

"The opening tune is the same. I brought Lambada to India 19 years ago, and she has done it now. The credit goes to me."

The composer, who is known for his trademark gold jewellery, had been involved in an earlier plagiarism case after Truth Hurts sampled sections of his 'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' for their 2002 single 'Addictive'.

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez is set to be the new face of Spanish brand Tous Jewellery.

The "American Idol" judge will front the line's new advertisements. The brand's boss Salvador Tour claims Lopez was a great "illustration" for them.

"Jennifer is not just an amazingly beautiful woman, but also a talented actress, musician and dancer sharing with us strong family values as we are a family owned business. She is genuine and endlessly charismatic; a great illustration of our brand," contactmusic.com quoted Salvador as saying.

The 41-year-old has taken over from Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

Actress-singer Jennifer Lopez made good use of her current, high profile judging gig at 'American Idol' - by premiering her new single, 'On the Floor', on the reality singing show.

The video for the four-minute club anthem is chocked full of crystal chandeliers, gilded go-go dancers and a silver bodysuit rocked by Lopez herself, reports the New York Daily News.

Since it's February release, 'On the Floor' has reached the number nine spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song's success comes after a string of bad news in recent years which some thought signaled Lopez' departure from the music business.

There's no such luck of JLo judging the Indian version," said a source.
