Katy Perry records tribute to Freddie Mercury

Katy Perry has filmed a video tribute for Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday today (05.09.11).
The 'Firework' hitmaker - who has previously called the deceased Queen frontman her "biggest influence" - sang 'Happy Birthday' to the star and thanked him for helping her to become a "killer queen".

She said: "Happy 65th birthday Freddie, we love you so much. Even though you're gone, you're not really gone - you've inspired us all and you inspired me especially.

"Without you I wouldn't be making music or doing what I do because you're lyrics inspired me as a 15 year old girl. I heard 'Killer Queen' and I wanted to be a killer queen!

"Thank you so much for all of your amazing music, for Queen the band, for your whole persona, for your character and personality, which was larger than life. We love you and we'll never forget you."
Freddie died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on November 24 in 1991.

Katy - who is married to British comedian Russell Brand - has previously praised Freddie's "I don't give a f**k attitude" and admitted she almost got a giant tattoo of his face on her back as a tribute to him.
She said: "Freddie Mercury was - and remains - my biggest influence.

"The combination of his sarcastic approach to writing lyrics and his 'I don't give a f**k' attitude really inspired my music.

"I nearly got a huge tattoo of Freddie Mercury's face on my back a few years ago. It's probably for the best that I didn't get it done, but I still want to do it." Source

MTV video awards honor Britney Spears, Katy Perry

Pop star Lady Gaga opened the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday dressed in drag and singing her "You and I" while Britney Spears and Katy Perry took awards, but it may be Beyonce who stole the show.

The R&B singer whose hits include "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" appeared visibly pregnant as she showed up on the red carpet outside the show, posing for photographers and outlining a baby bump with her hands under her long gown.

Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, avoided reporters waiting to ask whether she is pregnant. For years, her fans and the media have speculated whether and when the pair might have a baby.

Lady Gaga, who showed up last year at the MTV video awards in a dress made of raw meat, did an about face this year, opening the program in a man's dark suit and T-shirt as her male alter ego, Joe Calderon who gave the audience a lecture in just who Gaga is -- high heels, wild hair and crazy costumes.

"When she gets on stage, she holds nothing back," Calderon said.

Lady Gaga then launched into a version of "You and I," backed by a group of dancers and legendary rock guitarist Brian May of Queen. She danced on her piano and spewed beer from a bottle into the air in celebration.

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) annually give out honors for the top music videos and performances to singers and bands, and each year, audiences can count on at least one surprise.

Beyonce's picture-perfect baby news will likely be this year's unexpected event.

But awards are the focus of the night and the first winner was Spears for best pop music video "Till the World Ends."

The pop star took the stage and seemed surprised, saying she hadn't expected to win and thanking her family and fans.

Along with Spears, Foo Fighters picked up an early honor for best rock video with "Walk," and Nicki Minaj picked up the "Moonman" winner's statuette for her "Super Bass." Katy Perry and Kanye West were named best collaboration with "E.T."

Another major award still to come is best new artist, and Tyler, The Creator figures prominently in that race, too, alongside Wiz Khalifa with "Black and Yellow," Kreayshawn for "Gucci Gucci," Foster the People with "Pumped Up Kicks," and Big Sean (featuring Chris Brown) for "My Last."

British singer Adele with her chart-topping song "Rolling in the Deep" is vying for the top award, video of the year, against Katy Perry ("Firework"), Bruno Mars ("Grenade"), the Beastie Boys ("Make Some Noise") and Tyler, The Creator ("Yonkers").

Early performances included a duet by Jay-Z and Kanye West, singing a song from their new album, "Watch the Throne."

Other singers still to come include Lil Wayne, and there will be special tributes to Britney Spears and late soul singer Amy Winehouse. (Reuters)

Katy Perry, "Five Hot 100 numbers from same album."

Katy Perry has become the first female artist to achieve five Hot 100 number ones from a single album.

The singer has managed to top the Hot 100 chart this week with her latest single 'Last Friday Night', after releasing a remix featuring Missy Elliot last week, reports Billboard.

The remix accounted for 25% of the song's overall digital sales, while the original track remains atop the US radio songs listings.

Perry has now matched a record set by Michael Jackson in 1987-88, when the late King of Pop produced five chart-toppers from his multi-million-selling album Bad.

Perry and Jackson are the only two artists to have reached the landmark in the Billboard Hot 100's 53-year-long history

The five singles - 'California Gurls', 'Teenage Dream', 'Firework', 'E.T.' and 'Last Friday Night' - have all been lifted from Perry's second studio album Teenage Dream.

The album topped both the US Billboard 200 and the UK album chart upon its release last August and has more than 2.2 million combined sales in the territories.

Women dominating on music world

Rihanna has insisted that Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Beyoncé and she are the women who are currently dominating the pop music scene. The singer, who finished up the US leg of her ‘Loud’ tour on Sunday, said that it is “exciting” so many female stars are topping the charts and selling more records than their male contemporaries.

‘’There’s a pack. It’s me, GaGa, Katy Perry, Beyoncé... who else? Ke$ha for sure,” she told Glamour magazine. “Women are definitely dominating music right now, and that’s because we are competitive beings. I feel like music hasn’t been this exciting in a while.” She added: “All my friends are guys, to be completely honest. But when I met [Katy Perry], it was such a breath of fresh air.

I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button... Katy and Lady GaGa came out of the gate exactly the way they think, the way they wanna dress, the way they wanna speak.’’ The 23-year-old recently revealed that ‘Cheers’ will be the sixth single to be lifted from her multi-million-selling Loud album.

Katy Perry was bullied at school over breasts

Katy Perry has claimed that she was always bullied at school because she had big breasts from a young age.

Perry said that she was often called names because of her figure, and pointed out the irony of now being thought of as a sex symbol.

"In middle school they called me 'over the shoulder boulder holder'," Perry tweeted. "Now they call me hot."

Despite the fact that she was teased, Perry previously admitted that she had often prayed to have big breasts.

"I remember really vividly kneeling by my bed as a 9-year-old, saying my prayers, and asking God to give me boobs that were so big that if I laid on my back I wouldn't be able to see my feet," Perry said. "Eventually that request was granted."

Earlier this month, Perry became the first artist to remain in the US Billboard Hot 100 top ten for 52 consecutive weeks.

Katy Perry named 'Sexiest Woman for 2011'

Katy Perry has been named the 'Sexiest Woman for 2011'.

The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer, who is currently touring around Australia, beat Jennifer Hawkins and Miranda Kerr to top the Aussie version of FHM's annual list.

Perry told Perth Now: "That's amazing. I won? Really? Wow I can't believe it. I don't know what the criteria is for this award, but I endorse it wholeheartedly."

Others celebrities who made the list included Ruby Rose, Delta Goodrem, Rachael Finch, Megan Gale, Jesinta Campbell and Erin McNaught.

The Royal Family's latest addition - the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton - came in at 98. Today presenter Lisa Wilkinson was given the number 99 spot, while Helen Mirren made her debut in 96th place.

Mirren said: "It's flattering of course and I will accept that. But I hate the pressure that women put on other women constantly. I don't like the pressure men put on women even worse, but it really makes me angry when women put pressure on other women. You know, stop! Stop it!"

Perry recently came second in the 'Sexiest Woman In The World' list for the UK version of the men's magazine. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was awarded first place.

Katy Perry unveils 'royal wedding nails'

Katy Perry has shown off her new royal wedding-themed nails on Twitter.

The 'E.T.' singer took to the social networking site after yesterday's ceremony and treated fans to a glimpse of her latest handiwork, which involved pasting pictures of newlyweds William and Kate, several lone images of the Prince and a baby photo featuring his late mother Princess Diana onto her nails.

The 26-year-old also joined the wealth of celebrities congratulating the couple by including a caption saying: "In honour of the Royal Wedding, I present you... My royal NAILS! CONGRATS!"

Perry, who previously threatened to crash the royal wedding, earlier retweeted a message from one of her followers, simply saying: "RT if u always wanted to be a princess (sic)."

Perry attached images of husband Russell Brand to her nails last September in celebration of their first anniversary.

Katy Perry leads US singles chart

NEW YORK: Katy Perry's "E.T.," featuring Kanye West, spent a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on Thursday, bolstered by the premiere of its effects-heavy video a week ago.

Rihanna's "S&M" was also unchanged, at No. 2, while the Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" rose two to No. 3. Cee Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" at No. 4 and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" at No. 5 each slipped one place.

Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now," featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, rose one to No. 6; Jeremih's "Down on Me," featuring 50 Cent, jumped two to No. 7; Jennifer Lopez's "On the Floor," featuring Pitbull, was also up two, to No. 8; and Pink's "F**kin' Perfect" dropped one to No. 9.

British singer/songwriter Adele claimed her first top-10 hit in the United States as "Rolling in the Deep" soared seven places. The track comes from her hit album "21," which recently ruled the Billboard 200 chart for three weeks, and is expected to reclaim its crown when data are released next Wednesday. (Reuters)

Katy Perry unveils 'E.T' music video

Katy Perry has unveiled the music video for her latest single 'E.T'.

The singer teased fans via her Twitter page ahead of its premiere by asking: "Are you ready for abduction?" before posting the clip on YouTube.

The promo sees the star hurtling through space towards a destroyed planet Earth and turning a robot into a human.

Kanye West, who also features in the clip and the radio edit of the track, tweeted at the star: "Congrats friend, we did it! #sweet."

Discussing the song, Perry said in a press release: "The main gist of the song is that it is a metaphor about finding someone who is just obviously not from this world because how could they love me like this?

"Even though it is a metaphor, I'm very interested in all things futuristic. I mean, I complain every day that the hoverport has not been invented. I think it's absolutely ridiculous."

'E.T' marks Perry's fourth consecutive number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and currently sits at 18 on the UK chart.

Twilight, Katy Perry among People's Choice winners

LOS ANGELES: "Twilight" again stole the limelight at the People's Choice awards on Wednesday, on a night that also saw big wins for singer Katy Perry and actor Johnny Depp at the start of the Hollywood awards season.

Organizers said a record 175 million votes were cast on social media and on the Internet for the favorite stars of television, movies and music in an awards show that is totally fan-driven.

Despite being the earliest of Hollywood's glittering awards shows, the People's Choice picks gave few clues this year to the likely winners of industry-voted honors such as the Oscars or the Screen Actors Guild honors.

"The Twilight Saga; Eclipse" the third installment of the popular vampire romance, won for favorite movie and favorite drama. "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart beat veterans like Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts to take the favorite movie actress trophy .

"I can't believe this. You guys are unreal! For movie number 3 already?" said "Twilight" actor Taylor Lautner, accepting the trophies. "Twilight" and its cast are not expected to be among Oscar nominees when they are announced on Jan 25.

"Alice in Wonderland" star Johnny Depp took home the favorite movie actor trophy for the second year running.

Television honors went to musical comedy "Glee" and its scheming cheerleader played by Jane Lynch, while medical drama "House" picked up trophies for best drama and best actress for Lisa Edelstein.

The remake of "Hawaii Five-O" and the Twitter inspired comedy "$#*! (Bleep) My Dad Says" won for favorite new TV shows.

Katy Perry, whose infectious pop hits "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" dominated the charts last year, picked up trophies for favorite female artist and favorite web celebrity, beating the flamboyant Lady Gaga. "I've had an incredible year!," she told the audience.

Taylor Swift, whose "Speak Now" album was one of the biggest sellers of 2010, won best country artist. Swift's award was presented by singer Sir Elton John, a new parent with his partner David Furnish. "Elton! Congrats to you! You're a dad now," Swift told him, before thanking her own fans.

More than 44 awards were given out including one for best talk show host to comedian Conan O'Brien. O'Brien started 2010 by being forced out of his job on "The Tonight Show" and ended it by launching his own show on cable channel TBS.

"I want to thank everyone who made what could have been a horrible year into the best year of my life," O'Brien said.

I have sexual magic tricks

Kathy Perry has explained the sexual "magic tricks" she performs on husband Russell Brand.

The 'Firework' singer, who married the comedian in October, revealed that she employs many special techniques to ensure that Brand is always surprised and satisfied.

She told Grazia: "I have secrets and magic tricks, of course. I can't share them because then you'd all know. But let's just say I'm not shy. And I never wear sweats. Ever."

However, Perry admitted that the couple struggle to break free from their hectic schedules and are planning a move to London in order to obtain more quality time together.

"We're both busy but this is a huge part of my life. I call the shots on my schedule. I put in breaks. There are weekends for Russ and weekends for me and my friends. Neither of us ever wants to lose ourself or the other in fame," she said.

"We have a place together in America but we want to find somewhere here. I want a British passport."

Katy Perry eyes burlesque photoshoot

Katy Perry has revealed that she is keen to do a burlesque photoshoot in the future.

However, the 'Firework' singer told Cosmopolitan that she would not pose for Playboy magazine again.

She explained: "I like to play that [sexy] card because it's fun and definitely in my deck, but I like to tease. I'm like a burlesque girl.

"I definitely won't be doing a Playboy spread but I will be doing a kind of Dita Von Teese style [session]."

Katy Perry, Russell Brand begin honeymoon

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have reportedly jetted to the Maldives for their honeymoon.

An airport official has confirmed to The AP that the newlyweds - who married in India on Saturday - left Jaipur on a chartered flight with friends earlier today.

They are reported to have tied the knot in a private ceremony at a resort in the country - where they became engaged in January - over the weekend.

Neither Perry or Brand has directly addressed the nuptials although the pair confirmed the wedding reports with identical messages on their Twitter accounts which read: "WE DID! (sic)" alongside a photograph of their names.

A spokesperson for the newlyweds later confirmed the marriage in a statement, saying that the stars were "overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr and Mrs Brand" and describing the ceremony - which was performed by a family friend of Perry - as "very private and spiritual".

The couple began dating after meeting at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.

Brand, Katy tie nuptial knot, at last

NEW DELHI: Finally, the big, fat Indian jungle wedding of Russell Brand and Katy Perry took place as per plans at the tiger reserve in west India on Saturday.

In keeping with the Hindu tradition, which inspired the ceremony, the groom arrived on horseback - while the elephants, camels and more horses formed part of the wedding procession.

And while guests at a conventional wedding might be guided from the pulpit to reflect on life, love and marriage, throng were treated to the wisdom of a Hindu guru and a fortune-telling parrot.

No doubt much to everyone’s relief, the bird foresaw a long life, long marriage and long and successful careers for both bride and groom by picking out cards in response to guests’ questions - translated into Hindi for it by handler Pandit Rakesh Joshi.

There were fire jugglers and fire eaters, snake charmers and dance troupes, folk singers and drummers and several ‘costume’ changes for the henna-adorned bride and, less traditionally, similarly painted groom.

“It’s like somebody said “Throw your own wedding” to a couple of loved-up 14-year-olds who are a bit self-consciously cool and have just “discovered” Indian spirituality - and got it all jumbled up with mysticism and crystals and goodness knows what,” the Daily Mail quoted one source as saying.

Perhaps not quite the appraisal celebrity-wedding planner Mindy Weiss hoped for - but as long as the bride and groom are happy, her work is done.

The Mandap (wedding canopy) was erected in Aman-i-Khas’s central large pavilion tent, which was strung with orange, red and yellow ribbons rather than the mute, cream hues of the rest of the resort.

The gold wedding thrones were installed, the marigold garlands strung and the traditional Nagaras (Rajasthani drums) rolled into place ready.

Katy decided to give Russell a baby elephant as a love token. Russell presented his bride with a ruby imbued, he reckons, with protective powers.

Several dresses. But all designed with one, or perhaps two, key points in mind.

“Katy was determined that her sari-inspired dresses showed off her cleavage of which she’s very proud,” the source added.

The evening before the ceremony she wore a maroon sari, on the day itself she started off in blue but had several different colours and changed throughout the day.

Russell opted for a nude-tone kurta and pyjamas, later putting on a long, heavily-ornamented, fitted coat.

Katy and Russell wrote their own vows and guests must have envied the couple their wedding ‘thrones’ - as Katy’s lasted 30 rambling minutes.

A source said: “Katy was really looking forward to hearing Russell’s vows and his speech.

“She thinks that his Dickensian way of talking is just the most erotic, sexy, brilliant thing she’s ever heard.”

A local worker helps out with preparations yesterday

Later Katy sang to Russell - something many were nervous about as she was determined to do so ‘A Cappella’ - with none of her usual heavy production.

Reformed drug addict Russell is teetotal and, though Katy isn’t, they decided the wedding would be a dry one.

In the days before the celebrations kicked off, the local store was asked to order 1,380 cans of soft drink and 5,000 bottles of mineral water. The wedding feast was traditional Indian and vegan.

There were no fireworks as the proximity of the wildlife sanctuary rules out fireworks and forbids any noisy celebrations.

But Russell and Katy are unlikely to mind.

Katy Perry's engagement ring story revealed

Katy Perry's engagement ring story revealed
"The whole ring thing happened many months ago, when Russell was in Delhi on his way to Jaipur and I was referred to him through mutual friends, I don't necessarily do engagement rings, unless commissioned, and this came as a request, and there was urgency to it," Us magazine quoted Singh as telling RadarOnine.com.

"I showed him a design and my favorite stone -- the Golconda diamond -- the most magical of Indian diamonds from many hundred years ago when the Golconda mines were flourishing.

"And in a matter of minutes choices were made, He [Russell] requested privacy, and I was happy to oblige. I understand how some things must remain sacred and special, especially in momentous times like a wedding.

"Russell is extremely charming and a lover of our country. Good wishes to them both," Singh added.

Tight security for Brand-Perry wedding India

Tight security was in place on Saturday as British comic-turned-Hollywood actor Russell Brand and US pop star Katy Perry geared up to tie the knot at a luxury resort in western India.

A shroud of secrecy surrounded the marriage preparations of the couple who were expected to wed later on Saturday in a Hindu ceremony on the fringes of the Ranthambore tiger reserve in Rajasthan state, according to media reports.

The luxury Aman-i-Khas resort, where the nuptials were reportedly set to take place, was shielded by bamboo and grass screens to stop onlookers from peering into what the media has dubbed the couple's "jungle wedding."

Brand, 35, and Perry, 25, arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday and flew to Rajasthan.

Perry's dress will have an Indian theme and she will have traditional Indian henna tattoos on her palms as part of the wedding preparations, media reported.

Guests at the celebrations, 80 miles (130 kilometres) from famed tourist city Jaipur, were said to include pop princess Rihanna and rap mogul P. Diddy, who was expected to perform before the wedding pair.

Staff at three top-end venues booked for the couple and their guests -- the Aman-i-Khas, Sher Bagh and and the Oberoi Vanyavilas -- in the Ranthambore area enforced strict security to stop outsiders from entering.

On Friday, bodyguards clashed with photographers trailing Brand and guests in the wildlife park, punching two of the photographers and their driver, according to a photographer of a French news agency.

Brand, a recovering drug and alcohol addict with a reputation as a womaniser, was arrested last month for allegedly attacking a photographer at Los Angeles airport and was freed on 20,000 dollars bail.

The hirsute star who found fame as a comedian and later as a TV and radio presenter, proposed to singer-songwriter Perry while on a New Year's holiday in Rajasthan in a whirlwind romance, according to reports.

Perry is famous for her hit songs, "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold".

Ranthambore authorities have told the pair to keep festivities quiet, explode no fireworks and play no music after 10:00 pm so animals in the reserve are not frightened by the noise, India's Mail Today reported.

The couple were expected to host a reception on Sunday at the luxury Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur.

Russell-Katy set to tie knot in Rajasthan

Hollywood heartthrobs 35-year-old Russell Brand and 25-year-old Katy Perry are set to solemnise their wedding, reportedly in Rajasthan by the end of this month.

The couple is learnt to have selected a five-star resort near Ranthambhore national park in Sawai Madhopur district for the momentous and fateful day.

Though the preparations have been kept top secret, sources said that the marriage is planned for October 28 and 29 and it would be followed by a six-day bash.

Brand had proposed to Perry at the Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur on New Year's Eve last year. Though the couple has not disclosed the location of wedding, to ensure privacy, the sources say that Aman-e-Khas resort, Ranthambhore is the chosen location.

According to a US magazine Daily Mail, the couple has plans to wed in India but they have not confirmed the location. The couple, who have been dating since September 2009, have reportedly arranged for 85 guests among closest family members and friends.

The guests have reportedly been told to travel to “a secret location in India for the ceremony, which is expected to take place later this month” the magazine said. The wedding will be in traditional Indian style.

In the list of guests are expected Perry’s best friend and singer Rihanna, Brand’s friends Noel Gallangher, David Williams, and Jonathan Ross. Most of the guests will be flown out via private jet and accommodated in “luxury tents”. After wedding ceremony, some of the guests would be taken for tiger safari in Ranthambhore national park.

Katy Perry 'launching new nail polish line'

Pop singer Katy Perry is launching a line of nail polish, following the lead of teen star Justin Bieber.

According to Billboard, Perry is working with Nicole by OPI -- the same company that is releasing Bieber's One Less Lonely Girl collection of nail polish for teens in December -- to create the Katy Perry for OPI line.

Like Bieber's, the colors in Perry's line are named after her songs, including the pink glitter "Teenage Dream" and silver "Not Like the Movies," reports the New York Post.

Perry's collection will debut in January 2011. The singer has regularly used her Twitter account to show off photos of her elaborate manicures. Bieber, to date, has not.

Perry slaps pre-wedding sex ban on Brand?

Katy Perry has allegedly imposed a pre-wedding sex ban on her fiancé Russell Brand.
The 'Firework' singer is said to have slapped the restriction on her former sex addict partner in order to make the couple's first night as man and wife particularly meaningful.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: "Katy wants everything to be special for their wedding, including the first night. The sex ban was definitely her idea.
"Russell has reluctantly agreed, and they are sure it will be worth it after they have tied the knot."
The couple are reportedly heading to India later this month to wed in a traditional Hindu ceremony.
