After 'Munni', 'Sheila', Bollywood gets 'Jalebi bai'

Following the success of item numbers like "Munni badnaam" and "Sheila ki jawaani", Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat will now be seen in a sizzling song titled "Jalebi bai" in comedy movie "Double Dhamaal".

Mallika, famous for her sultry moves in "Maiya maiya", recently finished shooting for her new item number, in which she sports a sexy, crystal-studded bustier and a low waist, maroon-coloured brocade lehenga.

The four-day schedule of the song was shot at Mehboob Studios, where a lavish set of a casino was created to give the song the right look and feel, said a source.
The song has been choreographed by Ganesh Acharya and the music has been composed by Anand Raj Anand.

"Double Dhamaal", a sequel to the 2007 comic riot "Dhamaal", is slated for release this June.
The movie is being produced by Reliance BIG Entertainment and Maruti International, and is directed by Inder Kumar.

‘Sheila’, ‘Munni’ might face court ire!

ALLAHABAD: Indian Cinematography Act of 1952 may soon come on the way of smooth journey of ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ and ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, which have been craze throughout the country. However, ‘Munni’ and ‘Sheila’ have now reached court premises. Thanks to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Nutan Thakur, who is an IPS officer’s wife.

She has filed the PIL on Thursday at Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench. In this PIL, Mrs. Thakur alleged that Dabangg and Tees Maar Khan have shown obscenity through these two item numbers. Hence she has asked for deleting these two popular songs from the movies.

The PIL has sought action against Dabangg director, producer and co-producers. The petitioner has mentioned that they have violated some provisions of ‘Indian Cinematography Act of 1952’.

According to the petition, Dabangg and Tees Maar Khan have many immoral, indecent and vulgar songs, visual representations and dialogues. The petitioner has requested the court to direct the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and censor board to ask TV channels, cassette companies and filmmakers not to air the songs of these films.

The matter will heard in the court on January 3.

In the meantime, Tees Maar Khan is releasing across the country to make ‘Shiela Ki Jawani’ more popular.

'Munni badnaam hui' creates problems for real life Munnis

'Munni Badnaam Hui Darling Tere Liye' from the Bollywood film 'Dabangg' might have legions of fans but not the real life Munni, a mother of two in this Pakistani city, who has been harassed so much that she has shut her small shop.

Munni, a fairly common name in the subcontinent, is ruing the day the song became a hit. Her store is located at her home and she has been unable to open it since the song became popular.

"Every now and then someone will come to my store and say 'Munni badnaam hui darling tere liye' in front of my customers. First I didn't pay much attention and tried to ignore it, but then it became a routine event and I started to get irritated," Express Tribune quoted Munni as saying.

"Even sober and reserved people have sung this song loudly while passing by my store. I have scolded many of them but they just laugh and run away.

"Finally, I couldn't take this behaviour any more and closed my shop for several days. Now it's been two months and either I don't open my store or if I do open it, then I don't sit at the counter myself."

A mother of two, Munni said the song has also impacted on her personal life.

"On seeing me, boys in my neighbourhood would start singing this song at full volume. Many times they play it on tape to tease me. This song has really become a nightmare for me."

This Munni is not the only one to face problems, another Munni, a school principal, is too facing harassment.

Shahida Munni, principal of a school in this city, had been given the nickname Munni by her family and friends.

"While walking in my neighbourhood, I am always scared that someone will start to sing the song. Most of the time my fears become reality as many boys either sing the song loudly or play it on the stereo," Shahida said.

She said that it has now become a painful routine. "They do it for fun. I don't understand how teasing someone can be fun for people. I am sick of this now and want this to come to an end."
