Speaking to CNN's Open Court, India's No1 talks of the obstacles she has faced in her career, which include having a fatwa on her head for wearing a short skirt on court.
"When I started playing tennis, I don't think many people believed playing tennis could be a profession for a girl from Hyderabad," the Sun quoted her as telling the news network.
"When I used to say, 'One day, I want to play at Wimbledon', it was treated as a joke because it had never happened before.
"Tennis in India still has a long way to go for people to believe that women can play it and they're not wasting their time or life," she added.
