'Provocative' Lady Gaga allowed second Manila show

MANILA: Lady Gaga will be allowed to hold a second concert in Manila on Tuesday night after state censors ruled her "provocative" act was within legal bounds, a city official said.

Officials who monitored the first show on Monday found no violations of the permit terms banning nudity, blasphemy, and lewd conduct, said Antonino Calixto, mayor of Pasay City, the district where the event was held.

"Admittedly, some of the statements and choreography were provocative but the content and presentation taken all together can be considered as part of an artist's expressions" that are protected by the constitution, he added.

"Therefore, the city government of Pasay sees no compelling or legal reason to disallow the second concert from proceeding," Calixto said in a statement.

Up to 20,000 fans are expected to attend the American pop phenomenon's final Manila show, the same number as were at Monday's concert.

Conservative Christians in the Catholic-majority nation have been staging street protests daily to demand a government ban on the events, alleging some of Lady Gaga's songs are blasphemous.

One senior church leader said her show amounted to "devil worship".

Lady Gaga spoke out against her local critics at Monday's concert, declaring she was "not a creature of your government" before belting out her controversial song "Judas".

Her world tour, "The Born This Way Ball", has hit the headlines on its way through Asia, with an upcoming concert in Muslim-majority Indonesia denied a police permit for fear of violence from religious hardliners.

Prominent Filipino lawyer Romulo Macalintal, one of those who sought to block the Manila concert, said he was resigned to the local government's ruling.

"They are the persons authorised by law and if that is their decision, I cannot do anything, I just leave it to God," he said. (AFP)

Indonesian police refuse permit for Lady Gaga concert

JAKARTA: Indonesian police said Tuesday they would not issue a permit for Lady Gaga's June 3 concert in the capital, after Islamic hardliners vowed not to let the provocative performer set foot in the country.

"We will not issue a permit for the Lady Gaga concert in Jakarta," Saud Usman Nasution, a national police spokesman told. "The concert will have to be cancelled," he said.

Indonesia's hardline Islamic Defenders Front has mounted protests in Jakarta against Lady Gaga, vowing to intercept the "Poker Face" singer at the airport and ensure she does not enter the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation.

Another national police spokesman said the force had "no problem with Lady Gaga" but could not issue a permit without a letter of recommendation from the Jakarta police, "and they have decided not to do that".

The Jakarta city police said they had received objections to the show by the National Ulema Council, Indonesia's top Islamic body.

"The first thing we've heard from various public leaders is that Lady Gaga doesn't deserve the attention of so many people," said Jakarta police spokesman Rikwanto.

"They said her outfits are too sexy, indulgent and erotic."

It was not immediately clear whether the organisers will try to obtain a letter of recommendation from police in an alternative location.

Big Daddy Productions, the promoters, have already sold more than 50,000 tickets to the keenly-awaited concert and declined to confirm whether the show, part of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way Ball" tour, had been officially cancelled.

Lady Gaga has faced some opposition on her Asia tour but has not toned down her performances -- at shows in Seoul and Hong Kong she has ridden on to the stage on a mechanical horse, wearing a black bodysuit and an enormous black metal headpiece. (AFP)

Lady Gaga teacup fetches $75,300 in Japan auction

TOKYO: Fans of Lady Gaga bidding on a teacup and saucer used only once by the pop diva had offered more than six million yen ($75,000) for the item by the time the hammer fell, a Japanese auction site said Monday.

With more than 1,300 bids, the week-long auction finished at 1400 GMT Sunday, with a top offer of 6,011,000 yen, Yahoo! Japan, which managed the charity event, said.

The cup was used by Lady Gaga at a press conference in Tokyo three months after the massive tsunami of March last year swamped a large stretch of coastline.

Lady Gaga told reporters at the time that she would auction the cup, marked with her lipstick and bearing the Japanese message "We pray for Japan" along with the star's autograph.

All the money raised will be used to help young Japanese artists who want to study in the United States.

The teacup was one of a number of items being sold to raise money for those affected by Japan's worst post-war calamity, and was the second most expensive lot.

The top-priced item was a Kawai crystal piano used by Yoshiki of rock band Japan X, which went for 11,001,000 yen, Yahoo! Japan said.

The natural disaster killed some 19,000 people on Japan's northeast coast and sparked the world's worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, leading to a plunge in visitors to the country.

Lady Gaga visited Japan twice after the disaster and called on tourists from around the world to follow suit.

The songstress is due back in Japan this week as part of an Asian tour. (AFP)

Lady Gaga concert is termed 'un-Islamic'

A member of Indonesia's highest Islamic authority has said Muslims should stay away from an upcoming concert by American pop star Lady Gaga, who he said aimed to undermine the values of the world's largest Muslim country.

"(The concert is) intended to destroy the nation's morality," said Indonesian Council of Ulema chairman Cholil Ridwan.

Cholil said Lady Gaga's sexy manner of dressing and dance should be considered "un-Islamic".

"She's from the West, and she often shows her private parts while performing," he said.

He, however, added that he had never watched the singer perform and only heard of her "reputation" second-hand.

He said the 25,000 fans who purchased tickets for the June 3 concert leg of the "Born This Way Ball" tour should return their tickets. The show sold out in around two hours when tickets went on sale March 10.

Lady Gaga haunted by devil

Pop star Lady Gaga believes the devil keeps haunting her during sleep.

The 25-year-old has enlisted the help of Michael Jackson's former doctor and spiritual adviser Deepak Chopra to try to ward off evil spirits from her "terrifying" dreams.

Chopra helped the late Jackson achieve better sleep and breathing patterns with counselling sessions.

"I have this recurring dream where there's a phantom in my home and he takes me into a room where there's a blonde girl with ropes tied to her limbs pulling her apart," showbizspy.com quoted Gaga as saying.

"I told Deepak the dream was so terrifying I thought somehow that a devil force was trying to take hold of me," she added.

Gaga has also asked Chopra to help her achieve her dreams of "going into a coma" and levitating.

"I want to go into a coma and levitate. I am a very spiritual person. Deepak is the most influential person in my life. His message is a true inspiration. He helps me to reach inside my spirituality and we take it to the next level," she said.

Lady GaGa used men's bathroom as alter ego Joe Calderone

Lady GaGa would not respond to her real name while dressed as her male alter ego Joe Calderone at the MTV Video Music Awards last weekend.

The singer stayed in character throughout the duration of the ceremony at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on Sunday and also remained true to her role while rehearsing for the show.

VMAs executive producer Dave Sirulnick told MTV: "She showed up as Joe, rehearsed as Joe. If you said 'GaGa', she wouldn't respond.

"After rehearsals, she comes over, she says to me, 'It's nice to meet you', and I say to her, 'I know your friend GaGa', and she says, 'That GaGa, what a bitch!' She did not break character once.

"She walks in backstage and, in front of a whole bunch of people, went into the men's room."

Lady GaGa won two awards at the ceremony including 'Best Female Video' and 'Best Video With A Message'.  Source

Is Lady Gaga going straight?

IT was always going to be the ultimate gimmick for the eccentric Lady Gaga.
With every visceral taboo broken, from meat dress to climbing inside a womb on stage, the 25-year-old had nowhere to do. Except, of course, to the one area that no-one would ever expect, that of chic normality. And for the second day in LA, as she arrived at a recording studio, she did just that.

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, donned an elegant long black dress that clung to her dainty frame in all the right places. With a beehive that evoked a blonde Audrey Heburn, the whole outfit was very Breakfast at Tiffany’s, down to the large diamanté earrings.

We’re so used to seeing Lady Gaga step out in something original and outrageous that we almost didn’t recognise her yesterday. But it seems like the new elegant New Yorker may be here to stay. –DM

Anger over Lady Gaga wheelchair stunt at Sydney

Lady GaGa has become the target of American disability campaigners.
On Wednesday, the 'Edge of Glory' singer performed in a wheelchair while at a secret gig in Sydney, Australia. The stunt angered disability campaigners in the US, who accused GaGa of using the chair for "shock value", WENN reports.

"Since this isn't the first time she has used a wheelchair in her performances, I invite her to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis," said Jesse Billauer, founder of the Life Rolls On Foundation. "They, like me, unfortunately, don't use a wheelchair for shock value."

GaGa previously took to a wheelchair in the music video for her hit song 'Paparazzi'.

Billauer went on to invite the singer to come to a future event hosted by Life Rolls On where she could learn more about living with disabilities.

"I extend a personal invitation to Lady GaGa to attend one of our Life Rolls On events where quadriplegics and paraplegics surf, skate, and snowboard, so she can see how much is possible beyond a wheelchair." Billauer said. "Maybe that will be most shocking to her of all."

GaGa was pelted with eggs as she left a nightclub in Sydney in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The singer's official YouTube account was suspended earlier amid copyright claims.

Lady GaGa is allegedly determined to become a mother by the time that she is 30.

According to reports, the singer is planning to adopt a baby from Asia with or without her boyfriend Luc Carl.

At a bar in New York last year, the couple were apparently overheard talking about starting a family.

Sources have claimed that the 25-year-old declared that she wanted "lots of babies", before Carl replied: "No, I don't want any more than two."

However, friends of GaGa have said that she is looking to adopt from India, Nepal or Bangladesh.

An insider told Now: "She's always had a fascination and love affair with Asian culture.

"She's even sworn she'll learn the language of the country her baby's from before it can speak. She wants to be a mum by the time she hits 30 and she'll do it with or without Luc. She's got enough money to do it on her own, so why not?"

GaGa recently insisted that she would never look for love and instead waits for situations to come to her.

Lady GaGa 'wants to act in Bollywood movie'

When questioned about her favourite film, the star refused to name a specific project, saying:
"I couldn't name any one in particular, I like so many."

GaGa would also not confirm her favourite stars from the world of Hindi cinema.

"Again I have so many actors and actresses that I love in India and I couldn't just name one," she explained. "I am just looking forward to getting to know them better."
