Dance with the Canadian Prime Minister's wife

Akshay Kumar has shared a dance with the Canadian Prime Minister's wife at the premiere of new film Thank You.

The event, which took place at Cineplex Silvercity, Brampton, Ontario, marked the release of the actor's latest project, which was filmed in Canada.

"The highlight was the Prime Minister's wife Laureen Harper's dance performance with Akshay to the popular peppy track 'Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo', an already iconic music number from the film which has been championing the music charts for weeks," a source revealed.

The source added that Harper is said to have prepared for the sequence by repeatedly watching the video beforehand.

It is reported that Kumar dedicated the Anees Bazmee-directed release to the Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper.

Akshay-Twinkle renewing their wedding vows

Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan and Sunil Shetty is trying to re-register their weddings

Come Friday, Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan and Sunil Shetty expect to get the necessary approval to re-register their marriages at the Bandra Family Court.

Getting a second registration done (while the original one is still valid) is still technically possible, the cast has requested the court to grant them special permission to go through the entire registration process again, their wives in tow. So Akshay-Twinkle, Bobby-Tanya, Irrfan-Sutapa and Sunil-Mana will make a beeline to the Family Court.

A source reveals, "It was Akshay who suggested they do something around renewing their wedding vows. His co-stars were more than willing to co-operate. Since all the four actors are married, they also wanted to spring a sweet surprise on their wives by doing so."

The men want to re-register their marriages at the Bandra Family Court, and have requested the registrar to allow them to do so. Since they have given a short notice period, the request is still pending.

But given the clout of the actors and the media attention it would bring the court, chances are they might be given approval.

Bazmee confirms, "When Akki came up with this idea, I was amazed. Thank You is all about infidelity, so to go and prove your fidelity seemed like a brilliant idea. We hope to get the permission to re-register these marriages."

Akshay upbeat on Indo-Pak cricket team

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who was here Friday to promote his film "Tees Maar Khan", said the joint team of India and Pakistan would prove the best team in the world, Geo News reported Monday.

Talking to Geo News correspondent Badar Muneer Chaudhry, the star said his movies earn the most in Pakistan and love which he receives from Pakistan is unmatched anywhere else.

Kumar said he loved Lahore cuisines saying, ‘I happened to eat some Lahori specialties which I relished a great deal.’

Bollywood star Akshay Kumarsaid he expected the film to repeat the success of his previous hits and called Canada a heaven on earth.

"What you are going to see in 'Tees Maar Khan' is total entertainment. It is a Bollywood masala movie which will appeal to everyone,'' said the actor. The film is due for release next week.

In the film, directed by Farah Khan and jointly produced by his wife Twinkle Khanna, Akshay plays a con man named Tabrez Mirza Khan, with Katrina in the role of his girlfriend Anya.

"I play the role of an uneducated con man who plans to rob a train containing 10,000 kg of antiques. The script is so good that all characters come along with me and I am conning all of them. I rob the train with their help but no one among them knows that they are helping me,'' said Akshay Kumar, rating Katrina as his favourite actress.

The actor credited Farah Khan with doing an excellent job of directing the film. "She did a great job. Because of its excellent script, the film has created new 'muhawara' (idiom) in dialogue,'' he said, reciting a few lines used in the film.

About his own role, he said, "I have been an entertainer for the past 22 years. I have done it in this film and will keep doing it in the future.''

Asked why he chooses Canada more than other countries for shooting and releasing his films, he said he has fallen in love with this country. "I love Canada since I did my first film here 17-18 yeas ago. I have been here hundreds of times, but every time I love coming here again. I tell people in India that if they want to see 'jannat' (heaven) on this planet, they should visit Canada,'' said the actor who is currently serving as a brand ambassador in India for the Canadian Tourism Commission.

The star, who finished shooting his first Hollywood film 'Break Away' here some time ago, said, "The film will be released in May-June. We have sold its distribution rights to Alliance Atlantis."

Shot in Toronto, the film revolves around Canada's national game ice hockey to address issues of cultural conflicts among new immigrants to this country.

Asked whether Bollywood standards were declining, he said, " No, Bollywood's standards are going up. While they used to release up to 500 prints, now these numbers are up to 2,500.''

He also expressed ignorance about his role in Deepa Mehta's proposed film "Komagata Maru". "I don't know anything about the film. Nobody has approached me.''

Asked to rate his favourite hero and heroine, he said, "I like watching Sanjeev Kumar...... and Katrina Kaif."

Sonakshi-Akshay To Star In India's First 3D Film 'Joker'

It is finally official. After much speculation as to who will be the female lead of the upcoming 3D film Joker (Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha being the chief contenders), it is the Dabangg girl who has finally struck the chord with filmmaker Sirish Kunder.

Touted as the first 3D project in Bollywood, Joker has already generated a lot of buzz not only for its content but also for the lead pair of Akshay and Sonakshi. Director Sirish Kunder was searching for a fresh pair for his upcoming movie and the Akshay Kumar - Sonakshi Sinha jodi looked perfect, the director stressing on the fact that Sonakshi also completely fits into the character as the female lead opposite Akshay's character.

Though titled Joker, the Akshay Kumar - Sonakshi Sinha starrer does not tell the story of a joker in a circus. Neither is it the story of a superhero, as was perceived by many after they heard that the film was to be made in 3D. Akshay Kumar is not prepared to reveal details on the plot yet and we as audience will also have to wait till next year to catch a glimpse of Joker.

All that can be said now is that Sonakshi Sinha is gradually getting a good grasp in Bollywood. After having worked with Salman Khan in her debut film, Akshay Kumar as co-star in the second film itself is something that many actresses will die for. The Dabangg girl too accepts the fact, promising to improve with each film. Joker hits the screens on Christmas next year.

Katrina Kaif And Akshay Kumar: A Hit Jodi!

Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar are two of the most loved stars in tinsel town. Both of them have established themselves in the world of glitz and glamor with amazing success.

The stars has undergone a long career with periods of struggle. But to put the long story short, let's point out the main aspects of their career together.

The fact that both have come from completely diverse backgrounds with no Godfather or Godmother in the industry and no family lineage in the glamour world has made them stand on a platform which deserves appreciation if not accolades.

Katrina Kaif who has a Brit background was far away from the glitzy world of cinema. She has been brought up with many siblings and had only come to the city of glamour to make it big as a model. Even though her first foray into Bollywood was a total thud, she struck gold with her film Namaste London opposite Akshay Kumar.

Akshay Kumar, who had been working as a cook in Bangkok had come to B-town with stars in his eyes. He did taste success with quite a few films initially, but then during his rough patch he was completely at a juncture with no films in hand.

Thus when Vipul Shah came forward with this film, he instantly agreed. Then there was no looking back for both Akshay and Katrina. The film was a super hit and so was this jodi.

Of course their other flicks together were also successful, but what is awaited with much enthusiasm is the forth coming Tees Maar Khan. So watch out for this great entertainment bonanza.

John Travolta-Akki to dance on stage together?

John Travolta’s visit to Mumbai at a time when Akshay Kumar’s retro John Travolta act in Vipul Shah’s Action Replayy is hotting up, appears to be an uncanny coincidence.

Vipul Shah has noticed the favourable turn of fortune too. His production team is right now busy negotiating with Travolta’s office to work out an audacious collaboration between Travolta and his desi counterpart Akshay Kumar.

Yes, the two will be dancing together at a live event. Vipul is in serious talks for this historic coming together.

Akshay Kumar who loves collaborating with international entertainers (Kylie Minogue in Blue, Snoop Dogg in Singh Is Kinng, RDB in Kambakkht Ishq) has also pitched in very strongly for an evening of collaborative Saturday Night Fever.

Akshay is apparently using his Canadian connection to convince convince Travolta to get jiggy on stage with the Kumar.

When contacted Vipul Shah tries to underplay the excitement of a Travolta-Kumar concert. “There are talks going on. But talking about it would only make things difficult. You see, negotiating with an international star is painstaking. Water-tight contracts have to be drawn up. Unquestionable deals have to be sealed. We’re in the process of doing all that. But like I said I can’t talk about it until the papers are signed. ”

While Vipul plays it safe it is reliably learnt that Travolta’s songs and dances from Saturday Night Fever and Grease are being handpicked as part of this historic live performance.

Let’s hope Travolta would have more to do in Akshay’s presence on stage than the other Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone had to do in Kambhakkt Ishq.

Beware gossip-mongers, Ash and Akki will sue you

There are stories and rumours galore about film stars, but celebrities are no longer willing to tolerate gossip that will affect their relationships. Many like Aishwarya Rai, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar have threatened legal action to stop gossip-mongers from spreading false news about their personal lives.

Recently an article titled, "Career more important than family", published by a website infuriated Aishwarya so much that she issued a statement saying she would take legal action against those who are spreading rumours about her.

According to Archana Sadanand of Imagesmiths, who handles the publicity for Aishwarya, a celebrity's life is in the public domain but circulating untrue statements about them affects their personal lives.

"Yes, a celebrity's life is there in the public domain but writing things that are untrue and attributing false statements to them affect their personal lives and in such cases the best way out is legal recourse, " Archana told.

"A rumour is a rumour until it takes the shape of newsprint or media space... when we authenticate any such information by broadcasting, we in a way are adding to our readership or viewership.

"But we seem to forget that a life, a person is attached to such rumours and in most cases these rumours have a snowball effect, " said Archana, whose client list also includes big names like Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan.

In the past actors like Saif Ali Khan and Akshay too have threatened legal action against gossip-mongers.

Saif was at the receiving end when The New York Post reported that he had thrown attitude in a local bar and was thrown out. He then threatened to take the newspaper to court.

"I'm considering taking legal action against the paper. The article is slanderous and completely baseless, " Saif, who was shooting for Siddharth Anand's "Tara Rum Pum" then, had said.

Akshay too decided to act against those spreading rumours of a discord in his married life with Twinkle Khanna.

Akshay and Twinkle's spokesperson released a statement that said: "They will not stand for false and malicious reporting by any publication any more. They have sent a legal notice to the publication concerned for the false report that they published on July 24, 2007, and they will take them to court."

Akshay also threatened to sue a British tabloid for giving false "details" of his and ex-girlfriend Shilpa Shetty's personal lives. It was published soon after Shilpa won British reality TV show "Celebrity Big Brother" in 2007.

"I will never talk about a lady in those terms, this is totally baseless, I've never spoken to the said newspaper and I will seek legal recourse, " Akshay was quoted as saying that time.

Said Rajnigandha Shekhawat, another publicist: "Rumours can take a completely nasty turn sometimes with absolutely no bearing on the truth... I think it's fair if the actors threaten to sue."

"However, rumour-mongering is a big part of a celebrity's life and most of them are now aware that there is no escaping it, " said Rajnigandha, whose clients include Shahid Kapoor, Sonal Chauhan, Vir Das and Purab Kohli.

Even southern actors have come down heavily on people circulating false news.

Recently, when Tamil actress Trisha was accused of entering into an unsavoury argument with former India cricketer Hemang Badani at a hotel, she issued a stern denial and said that certain "vested interests" have been spreading rumours about her.

"I won't keep mum from now onwards. Whosoever writes or says anything bad about me, I won't mind taking them to court, " she had said.

Many feel that stars seek legal help not just to safeguard their personal lives but also to protect their image.

"Actors survive on image, it's their bread and butter. So how can they take somebody trying to tarnish it so lightly? And in the clutter today, image has become more important...It's part of the marketing strategy of celebrities, " said Neelam Gupta, who handles the publicity of singer Sukhwinder among others.

But rumours about stars have always done the rounds. So are celebrities becoming more impatient now?

"I don't agree. I've heard of stars in the 1980s going and beating up editors of film magazines! That's something I haven't heard of in recent years, " said Rajnigandha.

Me, The Best Kisser, Ha ha!

Akshay Kumar who just visited the Spanish countries Honduras and Puerto Rico has picked up a super-cool smattering of Spanish terms and phrases which he uses generously on his family, much to their amusement and annoyance.

Of late language has become an abiding passion with Akshay. More than the cuisine or the touristic sights Akshay is fascinated by the language of the countries he visits.

Often Twinkle would be seen shopping during the just-concluded vacation while Akshay would strike up a conversation with strangers.

Says Akshay, “I like connecting with foreigners, understanding their language. It’s not enough for me any more to speak Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi and English. I want to know foreign languages. The only way for me to grow as an actor is to broaden my horizon. ”

Voice modulation and languages were invariably considered Akshay’s weak points as an actor. He is determined to change that.

So does Akshay intend to be as good with languages as he’s with kissing? His Kambhakkt Ishq co-star Denise Richards has described him as a good kisser.

Akshay guffaws, “Yeah, I heard about that. Hmmm. It’s not as if I travelled to the moon or achieved something to be proud of. But anyway I’m happy.

Good action hero, good comic actor, and now good kisser. Maybe people will start calling me a good actor soon. I’m working on it. ”

Akshay Kumar who has just completed the last lap of his vacation with his wife and son is more amused than flattered by being designated a good kisser

About matching paces with Sylvester Stallone in Kambhakkt Ishq Akshay jokes, “It’s only because I take Chyawanprash. But don’t tell Stallone about it. I don’t want him to start taking it also. ”

On a more serious note he says, “When I was working as cook in Bangkok I had three posters on my room’s wall. Bruce Lee, Sridevi and Sylvester Stallone. The first of my idols I couldn’t work with. But I’ve been lucky enough to work with Sridevi and Stallone. ”
