I don't need a Khan: Bipasha

Bipasha Basu talks about never having a Khan as a co-star in her 12-year Bollywood career and being tired of the 'sexy' tag

Bipasha Basu tell us she is on a high these days. Despite critics slamming her recent horror flick, the actress says she has been getting a lot of feedback from people, who have apparently named her the Tigress of Bollywood. She gently reminds us that on the route to completing 12 years in the industry, she has never worked with any Khan.

The actress states, `I never belonged to any camp nor worked with any Khan in the 12 years of my acting career. So it is a big achievement that a film that was completely resting on my shoulders has managed to rake in `40 crore in its first week.

`The Bengali bombshell feels that actresses like Vidya Balan have kicked off a positive trend in the industry that 30 plus actresses too can be glamorous. `I think you can always look glamorous.

However I am tired of being given tags that I am sexy or that people find me hot. I wanted to showcase my acting skills and I think I have fairly managed to do it,` Basu quips.

While the actress has been in news for her bitter parting with ex-beau John Abraham, she tells us that currently she is single and is living life to the fullest.

Hollywood director Roland Joffe is very fond of me: Bipasha

Bipasha Basu, who wrapped up work on her Hollywood debut 'Singularity', says she is very proud of her role of a Maratha warrior in the period romance, directed by Roland Joffe of 'City of Joy' fame

The film, starring Bipashsa, Josh Hartnett, Neve Campbell and Abhay Deol, got delayed following some financial problems but it is back on track and ready to release soon.

"I am very proud of my role in Singularity. It pushed me into the territory of period romance. It was a very emotional ad challenging role," Bipasha told. The Bong beauty, who is ready to hit the Indian screens with Vikram Bhatt's supernatural thriller 'Raaz 3' next week, finished shooting the film last month.

"We are dubbing the film now and it is going to get released soon. It is a very big project but went through a bit of financial crisis. Roland is an amazing director and he thought I was fabulous as an actor. It was different. I had no baggage while doing the film so I adopted very well and learnt like a new student," Bipasha said.

The actress, who is a fitness enthusiast, adapted well to the physical demands of her role. The film was shot in Australia and in the rocky terrain of Chambal, Orchha and Gwalior in India. "Roland was very fond of me becasuse I was pretty agile," Bipasha said.

The story of 'Singularity' begins in 2020 on the Great Barrier Reef. After a dangerous dive to save his wife Laura (Campbell) trapped while exploring a colonial British merchant ship wreckage, Jay Fennel (Hartnett), a marine archeologist lies brain dead in a Boston hospital.

Fennel's coma takes him back in time to Pune, India in 1778. The East India Company is invading the palaces and a young captain named James Stewart (Hartnett) is about to embark on a dangerous mission. Along the way, he falls in love with a warrior Tulaja Naik (Bipasha).

'Raaz 3' depressed and drained me: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu says playing a jealous actress past her prime in 'Raaz 3' was emotionally draining as she could not identify with the evil nature of her character

Bipasha says she pushed herself maximum to portray the character of Shinaaya, an actress who resorts to black magic to get her career and lover back in the horror film, which hits the theatres on September 7.

"I did not know how to bring in so much darkness because I am a happy person. I did not have any reference point. But I had to deliver and I think it was the nervous energy that brought me into that zone. It is the maximum I have pushed as an individual to perform. This role has depressed me, drained me and has broken me down," Bipasha told in an interview.

The Bong beauty says she is fascinated by the dark side of human nature and that was one of the reasons that prompted her to return to the franchise a decade later after 2002 Raaz', also her career's first hit.

"All over the world, actors are fascinated by dark roles because the good is very predictable. We all are very normal beings who fear things. I have played such roles and it is fine but a dark character is always more exciting," says Bipasha. The actress, who started her movie career with a grey role in 'Ajnabee', believes that 'Raaz 3' would be one of the darkest roles of her career.

The 33-year-old, whose break-up from John Abraham hogged the limelight until recently, says playing an actress onscreen made her realise how vulnerable actors are in real life.

"This role made me think that how we don't accept the basic fragile emotions that we actors have. We are always supposed to be strong, perfect creatures to others. Everybody envies our lives but there is a lot more fragile about actors."

"You have to be the same human being that everyone else is but you have to put up a front all the time otherwise you are going to be scrutinised, your are going to be poked, wounded and hurt," she says. The actress says working on the film, which harps on the insecurities of the showbiz world, helped her come to term with her personal life too.

"The film brought out the little bit of human in me. I learnt to accept that there are things that are going on in my life that I need to accept. I am not this pillar of strength that I project for people who love me or look up to me. I accepted during the course of this film that it is okay to be fragile and vulnerable."

Asked if she was forced to tap into the insecurities that come with the profession, Bipasha says she is well acquainted with fame and failure.

"As an actor I have gone through real exciting and turbulent times. It is the truth in every actor's life. Nobody is safe. You have to hit the bottom to climb up again. You need to know the flavour of both. But my character's problem is that she adopts really dark means to retain her fame."

Bipasha Basu speaks her mind on fairytale love and betrayal

New Delhi: Bong beauty Bipasha Basu might have suffered a heart break post an almost a decade long relationship with John Abraham but that has not weakened her faith in true love and happy endings.

The girl has moved on and is enjoying her new ‘single’ status to the hilt. So during a chit-chat with a popular magazine, Bips said, “I’m done with only giving in a relationship. I’d like to get back something now. Now the man should love me enough to want to fit into my life rather than wanting to change me and to fit into his. Saying that doesn’t mean I’m a headstrong person who doesn’t compromise. I think when love happens you automatically start doing that. Yeah I’m open to love.”

When asked about a deal breaking factor in a relationship, she answered with a straightforward “cheating”. Also when asked whether or not she will ever speak about her fallout with John Abraham, she replied that he is not important in her scheme of life anymore and his memories have faded from her mind.

John and Bipasha began dating in 2002. Since then their relationship has seen rare downs and has mostly been steady.
