Gay rights work to bring honour to Kim Cattrall

GLAAD Media Awards is set to honour 'Sex and the City' star Kim Cattrall for her gay rights work late this month.

The actress, best known for playing feisty Samantha Jones in the racy franchise, will be handed the Golden Gate Award at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation ceremony in San Francisco, California.

Recipients are picked for doing work which increases 'the understanding and visibility' of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

"Kim Cattrall has not only grown acceptance of our community through story lines on shows like Sex and the City but used her platform to speak out for equality. We are proud to honour such a talented and passionate advocate," the Daily Express quoted GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios as saying.

The prize giving, hosted by Glee star Naya Rivera, will be held at the San Francisco Marriot Marquis on 14 May.

Kim Cattrall: 'I had sex too young'

Kim Cattrall has reportedly revealed that losing her virginity at age 15 affected her future relationships.

The Sex And The City actress confessed that the first time she slept with a man, she was so disappointed by the experience that she then had low expectations of sex.

Cattrall told The Sun: "I should not have had sex so young. I lost my virginity at 15 and thought, 'Is that it?' I was not ready for the experience.

"It set a pattern after that. I was not expecting a great deal from sex - and I did not get it either. I would have been better to discuss sex with girlfriends - and I think girls are more open today."

The 54-year-old added that she used to think sex would lead to love.

She explained: "No-one really tells you how to do sex. I remember reading the Kama Sutra, but could not really understand it... I separated love from sex. Or just thought sex would lead to love. It did not, of course."

Kim Cattrall to endorse Tetley Tea?

Hollywood actress Kim Cattrall has reportedly been approached to appear in a new Tetley Tea advertisement.

"We've approached Cattrall's agent about the possibility of lining her up to become the eighth member of the gang and featuring in a forthcoming advert with the tea folk," femalefirst.co.uk quoted a spokesperson from the firm as saying.

The "Sex and the City" actress who has previously appeared in advertisements for the British tea brand could become the eighth member of the cartoon gang used in the commercials.

Kim Cattrall "too curvy" for free dresses?!

Following on from Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks' complaint that designers won't lend her dresses for events because of her shape comes the news that Sex And The City vixen Kim Cattrall also missed out due to her curves. According to Kim, she was the "biggest" of the four SATC ladies, and as such often missed out on wearing the best designer pieces. "I’m not a sample size like Sarah and Kristin," she explains. "I couldn’t wear a lot of the clothes the young designers would send us. I’d wear a lot of vintage – some of things I wore were like pieces of art.” We can't get over the fact Kim is classed as "curvy" in the first place. If she was any slimmer she'd look like one of Carrie's Manolos. Crazy Hollywood silliness. Grrr!

Men are a mystery

Kim Cattrall has revealed that though she is dating again she doesn't understand men.

The Sex and the City actress also said that she thinks the first date is the most important time to get to know someone.

"I'm dating again, but I know nothing about men," she said. "They remain a mystery to me, other than that they are predictable. I think a man shows you on the first date who he is, so that's when you should be very aware.

"But I don't think that you can change anybody. They are who they are. I think that's the secret to a successful marriage, or a successful relationship, accepting the other person for who they are."

The 54-year-old also said that she feels Sex and the City continues to make a powerful feminist statement.

"We have encouraged a lot of women to change the way they feel about being single, about getting married, being alone," she said. "We've addressed issues they care about and encouraged them to come together.

"I think that we've helped define what it is to be successful, smart and also feminine."

I will only strip for SATC

Kim Cattrall has insisted that she will only bare all if she's portraying her Sex And The City character Samantha Jones.

The actress has claimed that she will never strip for the camera other than when playing Samantha because she needs to envision the character's care-free attitude to life, reports Contactmusic.

The 53-year-old said: "There was a moment on one of the shows where I was being shot completely nude. I had a photographer I knew and was happy with and was just about to drop the towel when I realised I couldn't do it. I had to go away and get into character as Samantha. I really need to be her to get that 'so what' kind of attitude."
