DiCaprio fails to beat 'Immortals' at box office

LOS ANGELES: Big-budget 3-D epic "Immortals" reigned supreme at the North American box office this weekend, beating an Adam Sandler comedy and a Leonardo DiCaprio biopic, industry data showed Monday.

Set in ancient Greece, "Immortals" scored $32.2 million in weekend receipts, pushing it past Sandler's "Jack and Jill," in which he plays both a successful Los Angeles advertising executive and his needy twin sister Jill.

The comedy came in second with $25 million, according to monitor Exhibitor Relations.

Animated kids' romp "Puss in Boots," last week's leader, took third place with $24.7 million. The flick features voice work by Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis and Billy Bob Thornton.

In fourth was "Tower Heist," with an all-star cast led by Eddie Murphy -- who quit as Oscars host last week after a row over anti-gay comments by the film's and the Oscars' producer Brett Ratner -- at $12.7 million.

It was trailed by Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," which stars DiCaprio as late FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and raked in $11.2 million.

Comedy sequel "A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas" fell to sixth place, with $5.9 million, besting futuristic thriller "In Time" starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried at $4.1 million.

Dropping to the eighth spot was "Paranormal Activity 3," with $3.6 million over the weekend but an impressive total of $100.8 million over four weeks in theaters.

A remake of the hit 1980s dance romp "Footloose" slipped to ninth at $2.7 million, ahead of the boxing robots of "Real Steel," with the Disney hit for children starring Hugh Jackman taking in $1.9 million. (AFP)

Leonardo DiCaprio, Blake Lively to split up?

Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively are said to be having relationship problems.

The pair, who reportedly began dating last month, have allegedly fallen out because of DiCaprio's more extraverted behaviour.

"Leo is back in the States, and he's going to go back to his old habits," a source told In Touch Weekly.

DiCaprio's "habits", according to the publication, include late nights out at clubs and parties.

"Blake doesn't like to go out," the insider added. "She's never been into the party scene. She doesn't like going out, dancing and loud music. She'd rather stay home.

"Blake can get really insecure out in public. It's one of the main reasons she hates going out. Leo, on the other hand, loves to be out at night, and tends to hit clubs and parties almost every night.

"Blake and [her ex-boyfriend] Penn Badgely stayed in all the time. They watched movies and hung out in their pyjamas all the time. Leo is definitely not going to be that guy."

Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Arrives Russia, Donates $1 Million for Tiger Preservation

Leonardo Dicaprio was generous enough to make his $1 million contribution for tiger preservation last Tuesday after being deferred by an air crisis. “En route to attend the Tiger Summit in St. Petersburg, Leonardo DiCaprio was one of the passengers aboard Delta Flight 30,” DiCaprio’s spokesman said. “He wishes to commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing.”

The flight was required to have an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York following a blown engine and dumping fuel. When the crisis in the atmosphere was over, DiCaprio signed a lot of autographs for the passengers and the crews. “Everyone is fine.” He said. DiCaprio, at 36, is joining leaders of government from the 13 tiger range countries in St. Petersburg, Russia, for a first-ever summit to save tigers.

Hosted by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the summit’s intention is to save tigers from extermination. The $1 million donation made by DiCaprio to the World Wildlife Fund will help critical tiger conservation efforts. “He is doing great,” a DiCaprio source says. DiCarpio admitted, though a little late, that he was happy to make it to St. Petersburg safe.

He has done tremendously as far as donating to environmental causes over the last few years. Big thumbs up to Leonardo DiCaprio for finding a different passion apart from doing any movie role that comes before him. His movie choices have been better lately as well.

DiCaprio wins restraining order against 'wife'

Leonardo DiCaprio has been granted a permanent restraining order against a stalker claiming to be his wife.

A Los Angeles judge ruled on Friday that Livia Bistricenau must stay at least 100 yards away from the Inception star for at least the next three years, thereby solidifying a temporary order handed out on August 25.

The 35-year-old actor was permitted a leave of absence from court proceedings by Judge Carol Boas Goodson on the grounds that his attendance "is basically granting her desire. It'd probably be the closest she would ever get... If I were in his position I'd be scared too".

E! has also reportedly uncovered new information from the sworn declaration DiCaprio filed against Bistricenau last month, in which he stated: "I do not know and I am not personally acquainted with Ms. Livia Bistriceanu and I have no desire to have any contact with her."

In addition, he claimed that the 41-year-old woman had flown to Los Angeles to stake out his personal home and production office and frequently demonstrated "delusional thoughts" and "irrational feelings".

In the run-up to the trial, Bistriceanu is believed to have written to the administrator of DiCaprio's website, saying: "I hope he's not gonna lie you [sic] about me cause I have a letter from him telling me he lost his virginity to me."

Last month, a restraining order was handed out to a woman that slashed DiCaprio's face with a broken bottle at a 2005 party.

Leo Dicaprio Gets Restraining Order Against Stalker

Respected actor and heart throb Leo Dicaprio has a stalker, a delusional one. Guys, this lady is super delusional! She claims to be knocked up by Leo and is telling people that the baby is Jesus. The lady’s name is Livia Bistriceanu and she is hounding the star, contacting him via email and has even tried to meet with him in person.

Leo is understandably scared. In his documentation for a restraining order he wrote, “I am frightened of Ms. Bistriceanu and feel that my personal safety, and the personal safety of those around me, is in jeopardy.” As proof, he submitted a couple of handwritten letters by the woman. Here is a snippet of what she said, “You wrote to me 2 years ago that you love me and you don’t love another women (sic). You said I talk to you soon and it past 2 years already and still you don’t want to talk to me. Why?”

Wait, here’s more…”Do you want to be with me for real and to be the father of Jesus? I’ve explained you I can’t be with nobody virtually. I have to have a father in reality for Jesus not like this.”

Yeah, this lady sounds crazy. Leo is scared for his life and rightfully so. Hopefully, things will work out and the woman will get a life but probably not. I guess we’ll all have to wait to see how things pan out.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Late Night In Hollywood

Kicking off his week with some serious clubbing, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted leaving Teddy’s nightclub last night (August 23) at 2:30am.

The “Catch Me If You Can” actor looked a bit annoyed with the paparazzi attention, and tried to shield his face as he hopped into a friend’s car.

As for the legal drama concerning the woman who assaulted Leo with a drinking glass, Aretha Wilson is now claiming that DiCaprio’s case against her is a cover-up and that Leo actually started the physical altercation.

DiCaprio’s lawyer shot back, "These are outrageous lies and a classic case of trying to re-victimize a victim in a violent assault. That this woman became a fugitive from justice for 5 years to avoid responsibility and that Mr. DiCaprio has fully cooperated with the prosecution from day 1 should say everything. This woman has a long criminal history of violent criminal attacks on others and should be given no attention whatsoever. Mr. DiCaprio simply wants justice."
