Hazel Keech: 'I think Bollywood chose me'

Bodyguard star Hazel Keech has revealed that she had to force herself to choose between Bollywood and Hollywood.

The actress, who makes her debut in the action film opposite Salman Khan, was born in the UK to an English father and an Indian mother from Mauritius.

She told Mumbai Mirror: "Since I have grown up abroad, I was always in a dilemma between Bollywood and Hollywood. I used to watch a lot of Bollywood movies with my mum and my grandmother. I think Bollywood chose me. "

Keech added that it had initially been a struggle to find work in India after starring in the Tamil remake of Don.

"I was Helen in the movie and I had to dance like her. The journey has been tough. When I was busy, I was very busy. But then there were times when I had no work at all," she said.

"This waiting was very difficult. But I utilised this time to learn. I worked on my Hindi, joined kick-boxing classes and learned Yoga etc. I also remember watching a lot of films in this time. I am very grateful for this struggle."

The 24-year-old appeared in the first three films in the Harry Potter franchise.

Bodyguard co-star Kareena Kapoor has said that the remake of the Malayam film revolves around her character.

Kareena Kapoor high on success after Bodyguard

The Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor film Bodyguard has broken the record of the Salman-Sonakshi Sinha movie Dabangg in just five days after its release.

Kareena is in seventh heaven. Back in the saddle as the No. 1 Bollywood diva, she says, I have three films on the list of the six highest grossing films in Hindi cinema. Bodyguard, 3-Idiots and Golmaal-3. I'm ecstatic.''

Kareena says Bodyguard has crossed 82 crore in just five days making it a mammoth hit and her biggest one. Trade sources say Bodyguard will not succeed in breaking the 3 Idiots overall record. But of course at this stage everything we speak on the subject is a conjecture.

As for Salman Khan, he is the No. 1 Khan and the No. 1 hero because he has Bodyguard, Dabangg and Ready on the list of the highest grossers. Aamir has 3 Idiots and Ghajini, while Ajay Devgn has Golmaal-3.

Bodyguard smashes all opening records

Bodyguard has emerged a gigantic hit at the box office. The film had an earth-shattering opening day total of Rs. 21.5 core and the moolah has not stopped pouring. The grand total of the 5-day extended weekend stands at an astonishing Rs. 88 crore (Approx).

The film has smashed all previous weekend records. Salman Khan’s 2010 release Dabangg held the record of the best first week collections (81 crore) and now Bodyguard has surpassed that number in just five days. In the next two days, the film is tipped to cross the magical 100 crore figure as well.

Bodyguard has heft behind the other biggies in terms of figures by quite a margin. The films which have gone down the ladder of record first week are Dabangg (81 crore), 3 Idiots (80 crore), Ready (68 crore) and Ghajini (64 crore). With Bodyguard passing the 100 crore mark, Salman Khan has consolidated his numero uno position at the box office.

Bodyguard (Movie Review)

For three years now, every Eid, a Salman Khan movie has become one of the rewards of the festival.

Whereas last year we had "Dabangg", which despite its simplicity had layers into it, this year we are treated to "The Bodyguard" which isn't a patch on "Dabangg". Despite this, it has enough to hold the attention of festive audiences.

Bodyguard Lovely Singh (Salman Khan) is a nice, honest man of steel who is faithful to Sartaj (Raj Babbar). Sartaj, asks Lovely to guard his daughter Divya (Kareena Kapoor) day and night.

Lovely does his job diligently, but is unawares that Divya serenades him under a pseudonym Chhaya over the phone, and has fallen in love with him. Things get out of control when Sartaj's enemies try to kill Divya while Sartaj thinks Lovely is trying to kidnap his daughter.

"Bodyguard", conceptually, is based on the type of stories that have made Imtiaz Ali popular - sweet, gentle love stories, where the underlying theme being sacrifice for the sake of love.

Yet whereas Imtiaz Ali reveals in a certain quaint subtlety despite the melodramatic nature of his films, "Bodyguard" director Siddique does not have that much of skills to pull that off.

The result is a film that has its few funny, slapstick moments but the problem area is the surprise twist in the end.

It is an end that does not gel with the pace of the rest of the film and seems cooked up. That is especially true because director Siddique gives no foreshadowing or inclination before of a possibility of a character doing what she does in the end.

However, that would be a problem with urban audiences. As far as rural viewers go, the ending, fantastic as it may be, might actually work for the film.

After all isn't there enough elements of fantasy in the rest of the film like when Salman going in the opposite direction in a train, simply jumps on to a running train in another direction. If one can digest that, one can do the same for the ending.

A little more effort on the editing table would have eased a lot of things.

Salman fans, however, have much to cheer.

They not only get to see their favourite star beating enemies to pulp, but also get to see his well toned torso, that in the end is revealed after jets of water blow away his shirt, much like the subway wind blew away Marilyn Monroe's skirt.

Debutante Rajat Rawail provides comic relief to the film not just with his antics but also the funny messages on his t-shirts like '6 Pack Coming Soon' pasted over his fat belly.

Salman is his well-chiseled self, and Kareena is as good as the script demands of her, which isn't much. The music is catchy, especially Himmesh Reshamiya composed song "I Love You".

Overall, "Bodyguard" may not have the chutzpah of a "Dabangg", but it pulls itself through to entertain viewers during the festive season.

Salman Khan’s ‘Bodyguard’ breaks all records!

Even as the Dabanng Khan recovers after his eight-hour surgery in Pittsburgh,USA, his film becomes a blockbuster back home

Salman has scored a hattrick this Eid with Bodyguard, as he continues to break his own records which he had set with Dabanng and Ready. Trade analysts have gone on record that as of now, Salman’s the only star who can guarantee such a huge opening at the box office. Last Eid, Dabangg had managed to garner Rs. 14 crore, breaking 3 Idiots’ record of Rs. 13 crore. On its opening day, Bodyguard managed to rake in Rs. 21 crore net (breaking the record set by Dabanng), the highest ever in the history of Bollywood! On the second day (Thursday), the film managed to earn about Rs. 19 crore. Producer Atul Agnihotri expects Bodyguard to cross Rs. 80-85 crore in India by the time the weekend is over. Source

Bollywood bodyguards reveal life beside the stars

They are an essential part of any Bollywood star's entourage, silently shadowing their every move and keeping over-eager fans and a celebrity-obsessed media at a muscular arm's length.

Now several of the increasing number of bodyguards working for A-list Hindi-language film stars have stepped into the limelight to speak about their duties, as a new movie on the subject is released.

The focus of attention has been a well-built Sikh nicknamed Shera (Tiger), who has been at action hero Salman Khan's side for the last 15 years and is accompanying him on promotional tours for Khan's new movie "Bodyguard".

"If anyone fires a bullet at him, I will stand in front of it and sacrifice my life for him. I love him to that extent," broad-shouldered Shera, who is in his early 40s, told reporters this week.
"In the last 15 years, Salman-bhai has done so much for me," he added. "Bhai" is Hindi for "brother" and is often used between close friends.

The feeling is reciprocated by Khan, who plays a bodyguard for Kareena Kapoor in the movie, a remake of the 2010 Malayalam-language film of the same name.

Shera -- real name Gurmeet Singh Jolly -- has been with Khan through the best of times and the worst of times, including a drink-driving case in 2002 and when Khan was jailed for a week in 2006 for killing endangered animals.

In a sign of his loyalty, Khan opted to use the badge and uniform of Shera's own firm, Tiger Security, in the film despite lucrative offers from a number of leading private security companies.

"I trust Shera completely with everything in my life, be it my money or even my women," joked the 45-year-old actor recently.

"If he ever decides to write a biography on me, I'm finished. He is the man whom I fear the most because he knows everything about me."

Bollywood stars inspire a fanatical following in India, making security staff as much of a requirement as an agent or a personal stylist.

While most fans are well-behaved, Kashinath Karmatkar, who works for megastar Amitabh Bachchan, said some can overstep the mark.

"Many times fans go crazy when they see stars face-to-face and they try to approach them closely," he said at a publicity event for "Bodyguard".

"It's at that time we have to be very careful to prevent them from coming close to the actor and at the same time see that the fans don't get hurt by our behaviour."

Hearthrob actor John Abraham has said he is rarely mobbed in Mumbai and is left to get on with his daily routine. But it is a different story elsewhere in India.

"I once walked into a Jaipur ATM and couldn't come out," he wrote on his web site last year. "By the time I had finished, there was a very committed Rajput ATM guard, who was trying to protect me from a very noisy mob of followers."

Female fans have pinched and even scratched him on other occasions, he has said.
Bachchan, star of some of the biggest hits of the 1970s, has long used bodyguards, who work so closely with actors that they often feel part of the family.

"The Big B" still has a huge following, with hordes of fans regularly camping outside his north Mumbai home just to catch a glimpse of him.

But the trend only really took off in the 1990s, when underworld figures tried to establish a stranglehold on the industry, and actors, producers and directors frequently received threats.

Bollywood's unarmed bodyguards now largely work at crowd control, with the bonus of accompanying stars at home and abroad.

For men like Yuvraj Ghorpade, who left school with few qualifications at age 16, the job has provided him with undreamed-of opportunities.

"The future was dark for me as I was doing odd jobs for survival until I decided to join Ace Security nine years ago," said Ghorpade, who has been a keen bodybuilder since his teens and is now in his 30s.

"Today, I am the bodyguard for (the actor-producer-director) Aamir Khan and many of my friends are envious of the fact that I roam with such a big celebrity all the time." (AFP)
